I am never shopping at Best Buy again.
I say that now but I will probably go there in a few weeks.... Anyway a friend and I went into Best Buy so he could get a PS2 and NCAA 2003, and I wanted SOCOM. So I get my game he gets his system and game and we are debating about Ghost Recon. Then a BB rep comes up and says "How much room is left on your memory card?" My friend tells him that he doesn't have the system yet but I say he only needs one card for it. BB rep says, "Well if you buy the two pack its cheaper, you will have to get another one eventually." Then he leaves and then comes back to say "You get a free NBA DVD with the system, here it is." So we say thanks. Two minutes later.....BB rep, "Are you sure you don't want the two pack memory cards? You will have to get one eventually?" Then I say, "Umm I will have to buy a house eventually to but I'm not getting one today." The guy just walks off. (I thought it was good ) Then at the register the cashier or actually 3 cashiers try to get my friend to get a extended warrenty for $44! They wouldnt take no for an answer. Saying how all these PS2's come back because they don't work. And that someone that works there has had 4 already. I say "I've had mine for 2 years and no problems." Then she says,"Well if you play alot of DVD's they will go bad," WTF? I tell her I play DVD's all the time with no problems. Then look at my friend and say, "Well if you don't drop it or treat it like a piece of **** it won't break." (Thought that was good too.) The cashier just gets pissy. Christ. He spend $260 there and that isn't enough for BB I guess.

We all say we wont go back to best buy. But then a few drinks and we end up making those drunken late night calls, using up all the space on BBs answering machine and standing outside holding up a boombox playing In Your Eyes.
Just admit it youll be back.

Seriously though, are you sure I can't sell you an extra memory card? I mean, one day you will run out while playing GTA and you won't be able to save, and you'll thank me. Also sign up for a contest here, right below where it says "PS2 Extended Warranty" and you might win a car! Also there's a new $44 tax on PS2's.

I had a similar experience at BB except it was with a camera. I was exchanging a camera that was defective -- certain serial numbers were being recalled. I tried to explain that to them, and this customer service representative kept on pushing their stupid extended warranty in my face. I told them the defect had nothing to do with damage to the camera itself but was a manufacturing error. And, she kept on pushing it. She kept on telling me how I needed it. I told her I wasn't interested but would think about it. It got to the point where I just lost it and told her, in front of her manager, I was damn_sick and tired of
her trying to sell it to me.
I hate BB, but there are few electronic stores in Birmingham.

I've successfully avoided Best Buy for a few months now... maybe I'll start a 12 step program after a year of success.

I've cultivated a beautiful distaste for Best Buy employees over the last six months.
I know they make money on their warranties, but a simple "no, I'm not interested" is enough. It shouldn't take three or four and a promise to take home their pamphlet in case I change my mind. Funny how every legit Consumer Reports type article on extended warranties says to run away and the only people giving the hard sell are the jackasses at Best Buy.
It's just not possible to take these retards seriously when they tell me that I need an entire memory card for SOCOM.

What's ****ed up though is how they always push that "they are not commission" and that they don't get a bonus for selling the extended warranties. But they push them harder than many commissioned sales people. I even complained to a manager once and he acted all surprised and said there was no bonus or anything and they DO NOT keep track of how many each employee sells, I found that hard to believe.

Circuit City has far more affordable plans and they don't force you to buy them. My service plan for my PS2 there was $29 for 2 years, which seemed pretty reasonable. Given their price protection policy (which I've taken advantage of several times) and the fact that the staff there seems professional and knowledgable, I've taken all of my business there.
I don't shop in Best Buy anymore at all. I saw one of their CSRs drop a DVD player he was trying to sell someone and even though the customer was angered by that, he tried to sell them a service plan.

When i bought my xbox live bundle there were sales people swarming the xbox area because they had just put like 50 of them out. When i picked mine up the guy went to ask but i said "No thanks" before he could ask. At the register the girl cashier asked me and i said "no thanks" , then the person helping her bag that day tried to say i really should get it and i said "no thanks again", then there manager behind them came out and tried to give me the "we have had a lot of returns on it" speech so my brother who is usually quiet in stores said "Are you people hard of hearing, he said he dosnt want your ****** replacement plan, if it breaks he will buy a damn new one" . Everyone heared and the guy who was at the register behind me laughed and told the person ringing him up to not even ask if he wanted it, and im pretty sure no one else with the xbox bundle on line bought one

Try shopping at Comp USA. Its like a car dealership. You pickout your computer and then have to turn down everyone from the sales clerk all the way up the district manager on their warranty offer. Every time I would say no they would go get someone else to try and talk me into a $350 warranty. Sorry, but if an extra year of coverage (they always try to neglect the fact computers have a year warranty already) is almost a third the cost of the computer I will have to pass.
As far as the PS2 breaking down. I would have to agree. If you play it a lot it probably will. My friend is now on his third. They have lasted him an average of 9 months each. The PS2 does not stand up to heavy usage very well in my experience.

I bought a warranty on my x-box that I got at best buy. It was $30 or so and within 2 years if it breaks I can get it replaced on the spot. It's much better than microsoft's warranty.

Anyway, sending a message to Mod, this probably should be in the store forum...

Don't get mad, get even.....
I have a "friend" who buys the replacement warranty on everything at best buy.... from X-boxes, to TV's to MP3 players to digital cameras. It is really amazing, that after about 9 months to 1 year, everything he buys breaks, and he takes it back to best buy, shoves their warranty in their face and gets the brand new model for free (well, the cost of the warranty).
Sure it is a bit of a pain, but having the newest coolest stuff every year makes it worth it, although it is not going to we worth it with an x-box since you can't change out the hard drive, but for everything else....just get the warranty, and get your new model in a year
