Robbery Homicide Division officially on hiatus

Things don't look promising for Michael Mann's gritty cop drama...

http://www.cnn.com/2002/SHOWBIZ/TV/1...eut/index.html

HOLLYWOOD, California (Reuters) -- CBS seems to have given up on one of the most critically hailed new shows of the year, putting Michael Mann's "Robbery Homicide Division" on indefinite hiatus, Variety reports.

No official decision on the fate of the Tom Sizemore starrer has been made, but industry insiders aren't holding out hope for the show's return. CBS has already announced that midseason drama "Queens Supreme" will replace "Robbery" in the 10 p.m. time slot starting January 6.

CBS pulled "Robbery" on the same day national Nielsen numbers showed the series turning in an encouraging performance in a test airing on Saturday nights at 10 p.m.

Mann admitted he was disappointed by CBS' decision, but didn't sound surprised.

"I guess maybe the show never found its audience," Mann told Daily Variety. "The irony of it is that everyone (at CBS) likes the show, from (network CEO) Les Moonves on down. (And) I think our potential was demonstrated this Saturday night."

"Robbery" struggled to find an audience airing in the same timeslot as another crime drama, Dick Wolf's monster hit "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit." Overall, the show averaged 7.12 million viewers and a 2.1/7 in adults 18-49, down about 9 percent from what "48 Hours" was averaging in the slot a year ago.

The series did show signs of promise in two Saturday airings. What's more, "Robbery" actually retained more of its adults 18-49 lead-in than "Presidio Med," another struggling CBS drama that's been given a full-season order.

But CBS' "The Agency" fared dismally in a Friday slot. Network executives seem more convinced about the long-term viability of "The Agency" than "Robbery."

Don't watch RHU but I have to ask who was the programming genius who decided to put it up against L&O SVU.

I glad they are sticking with The Agency - it is a good show although I think last season was definitely better than this season to date.

I'm sure Sizemore getting arrested isn't helping matters. I don't see the Agency doing much better longterm like the article says. I really wanted to like it but it just doesn't hold my attention. RHD was a much better show IMO. Damn you CBS.

Suckekekeke

Ugh ... The Agency is just so cheesy and formulaic ... I guess that's why it has more "potential." At least RHD was something new on TV, even if it was incredibly similar to Heat.

Tom Sizemore arrested for allegedly hitting a woman. A woman claiming to be the ''Robbery Homicide Division'' star's fiancee says he beat and threatened her, but his reps say the claims are a shakedown by Gary Susman

Tom Sizemore, who stars as a seasoned Los Angeles police detective on ''Robbery Homicide Division,'' got into his own trouble with the Los Angeles Police on Saturday. Cops arrested him that afternoon for allegedly hitting and threatening a woman, E! reports. The woman told police she was his fiancée, but the actor's representatives said she was not his fiancée or even his girlfriend, and described her allegations as a ''shakedown.''

According to E!'s account of the police report, the woman said she and Sizemore were arguing about wedding plans when they exchanged blows. He ''punched her in the face and threw her to the ground,'' a police officer told the Associated Press. She and two witnesses fled and called police, who came and arrested the actor. He was booked on a misdemeanor domestic battery charge and released from jail four hours later on $2,500 bail. He will be arraigned Jan. 8. He faces a possible $2,000 fine and up to a year in jail if convicted.

The woman's identity is unclear. According to E!, she is not Heidi Fleiss, the onetime Hollywood madam and Sizemore's on-again-off-again girlfriend. Sizemore's publicist, Michelle Bega, said of the woman, ''The individual is not Mr. Sizemore's girlfriend or fiancée.''

The actor's lawyer, Robert Barta, paints a very different picture of the incident. He released a statement, saying, ''Tom Sizemore is a popular and nice guy. An individual became unruly when asked to leave and was escorted out of Mr. Sizemore's house. Subsequently, the individual asked me, Mr. Sizemore's attorney, for money. This is a shakedown and we are confident that it will go away.''

Sizemore, the 41-year-old tough-guy actor best known for playing soldiers in films like ''Saving Private Ryan'' and ''Black Hawk Down,'' has faced such charges before. In 1997, his then-wife, actress Maeve Quinlan, called police after a violent argument at their home. She later dropped the charges, telling the Chicago Sun-Times ''it was all a huge misunderstanding,'' the result of a night of ''too much drinking.'' They divorced two years later.

Well, I really wanted to like this show but I never got into it. It just didn't bring anything new to the table in terms of cop dramas. I stopped watching after the first few episodes.

Thank you very much! I guess I could have done a search but was just reading the thread and asked the question.

Ahhh, gotcha.

With his arrest, I think this will be the nail in the coffin. What I don't understand if everyone loves this show at CBS, why not put that stupid Without a Trace show on hiatus and put this behind CSI. It would be a great tandem for the night.

Because they love ratings more. If it couldn't do anything against L&O they're not going to put it up against ER.

go figure, the idiots who figure out which shows go in what timeslots should be fired. CBS, take it out on your programmers, not the show.

I really liked this one, too. Sizemore and the cast were really good together.

Screw that - I really like Without a Trace. I think it is the perfect show to put on after CSI.

I'm so disappointed. First the terrific "Haunted", now this on "hiatus". I think "RHD" is an EXCELLENT show and I loved Sizemore's character.

I actually quit watching Law & Order: SVU once RHD started airing. I figured I could also catch L&O:SVU repeats on USA Network. When I heard that Tom Sizemore was arrested, I figured the show would be cancelled. I didn't realize they were already planning on putting it on hiatus.

I thought it was a very good cop show. I didn't like the switch to Saturday nights though.

..Why give up after a dozen episodes or so??

I didn't particularly like this show much. I was dissapointed with it, since I expected much more from Mann. I doubt that it will ever be back on network TV again..
