Malata 3600 onscreen display

Two questions about the onscreen display:

The less important one: I don't suppose there's anyway to change the crummy font, is there?

The more important one: The onscreen display gives elapsed time and remaining time for the current chapter, which is not very useful for movies. My previous player allowed me to switch the display to show elapsed and remaining time for the entire movie. Is there a way to do this on the Malata 3600?

IS Curtis 6500 & Malata 3600 the same units with different brand names?

unit with different brand names?

I can't even hook the damn thing up!

I have a Curtis 6500--looks just like the Malata- can I set it up to run with my VCR, or is this a stupid question?

Is that my problem... trying to assemble the unit with my VCR?

I ask the following question because of the repeat threads comparing 3600 to 520 --what is the real difference?

HELP!!

Malata DAV-3600 advertised in banner

I've been looking for a good region free DVD player ever since I realized that I wanted an R2 release of Dead Alive (aka Braindead). I was looking at the one that is advertised in the banner on this forum and I was wondering if anyone has testimonys in support of or against it. I don't currently have a surround system... just a couple Pioneer tower speakers and two 6 x 9 "surround" speakers. The amplifier is older than dirt, so I know that it's not splitting any signals into 5.1 or anything.

I'm just wondering if this is a worthwhile deal, and if anyone on this board has taken advantage of this deal and found it to be a good one.

http://www.hkflix.com/hardware/malata_dav-3600.asp

I posted this on the hardware forum but didn't get much of a response. I was referred to post this here, so here goes nothing. I'm interested in hearing about the speakers as well as the amplifier and DVD player. For 300 bucks it seems like a good deal, but sometimes things are too good to be true.

Are the speakers junk, and just used as a tool to make it look like a good deal?

Thanks
Mike

You might want to look at jvbdigital.com I have dealt with them before and the service was outstanding. And I know on some things their prices were cheaper than hkflix. Don't know specifically about this item though.

Looks like a good deal, but I don't know.

I bought one of these from HKFlix.

Great unit and great customer service.

The first one I received was defective (I'm told I was in the 2% category), but I emailed and received constant emails back as soon as I sent them - even at 11pm at night!

Not a problem with the return, and I got a great replacement within days - at no charge - they paid return shipping and shipped another one at no cost to me, and did so quickly.

So to HKFlix.

As for the unit, the one I now have sounds great, the little speakers and the subwoofer put out great sound for their size (I have this 5.1 system in my bedroom and am comparing it to my super hot 5.1 theater system, so of course it isn't THAT good, but it does sound great).

The unit is basically a Malata 520, it plays all regions, looks great, etc. etc.

I'd recommend both the unit and the dealer.

Please note that all "pixelation" problems with this machine have been fixed. Each one has been tested before it is shipped and we haven't had any problems in the last 45 days (since the fix was implemented).

Regards,
Jeff

Malata DAV-3600 Speakers Blown

This morning the speakers blew from just turning on our machine with no disc even in the player. We also know someone who bought the same player which comes with the 5 surround sound speakers, with a built in tuner... and their speakers are blown out as well. This is bought all together from Hong Kong flix.

Has anyone had this happen to them, if so, did you return it? Did you firgure out why it happened? Are they just cheap speakers? Thanks,

You paid about $300 for a $270 player plus speakers. Do the math.

HELP!!! My Malata 3600 remote doesn't work!

I've owned it for about a year now and lost the warranty. Go it through HKFLIX. Now I can't access Special Features or maneuver through the chapters or turn on subttles. What can I do?
