The Roots-Phrenology

Anyone else picked this up? Awesome album from start to finish. As good or better than Things Fall Apart, IMO.

As soon as I get back on my feet I'll be picking it up ASAP.

I concur - it's an excellent album. Nice to see a hip-hop group experiment with its sound.

This is easily the best album released this month, and quite possibly one of the best of the year. Seed 2.0 is my current favorite, although Sacrifice, Thought at Work, and Break You Off are also quite good. Nice to see some originality, instead of "The Blueprint 2" (which used to be an insult, until Jay-Z went ahead and made it a reality.)

I've been calling all around vancouver metro looking for a copy of this. No one has it - not Virgin Megastore, not Future Shop (owned by Best Buy, but in Canada). They all say it's "probably been pushed back one or 2 weeks"; they all said the exact same thing about the Kweli cd last week (which, btw, is another gem), so I'm probably takin a small trip to the US over the weekend...

I love Break You Off, and I've also heard Rhymes and Ammo which features kweli - it used to be on the track listing but I cant find it anymore... Now there's another song featuring kweli called 'Rolling with Heat' - are they the same song???

I don't know about Rhymes and Ammo but Rolling with Heat is amazing. The beat, the rhymes, everything. It's currently my second favorite song on the album behind The Seed 2.0 which has to be one of the most original songs I've heard on a rap/hip-hop album.

Rolling With Heat is on all versions and it also
has Qweli.

2 different songs.

You're probably right. Amazon.com's review says Rhymes and Ammo is a good song on the album and I figured it was Rolling with Heat.

I really love "Thought at Work." I downloaded a copy of it months ago that sampled the Beatles' "Hey Bulldog." They didn't get the sample cleared, though. It's a shame because I like that version just a little bit better.

The DVD it came with isn't too bad. I just hope at some point they put out a comprehensive DVD with all their videos (love the ones for "What They Do" and "You Got Me") and, even better, a full-length live performance.

Great album. Black Thought is the most underrated rapper ever.
