I have been having a hard time deciding how to get my $15 movie posters framed.
I have heard horror stories about using glass, plexiglass, corragated backing, etc.

I think the "Braveheart", "Shawshank Redemption" and "Tombstone" posters look awesome!
I plan on keeping the existing posters that I have purchased.
I realize that plak mounting them decreases their value.
Even if my posters don't have any value 20 years from now, they will have value to me because they are from my favorite movies.

I work at a frame shop that outsources to a plakmounting company. It truly is a great Idea.....But Pricey .

I have about 50 movie posters and even with my discount it's about $25.00 a poster. That's one hell of a cost.

I was comparing the $40 per cost versus buying a $100+ aluminum frame that has UV protected plexiglass, acid free backing, etc.
Instead of buying a $24.50 aluminum poster frame from www.frameusa.com, a $45 one from www.showoffdisplays.com a $128 one from http://www.electroshops.com/consumers/posterframes.htm a much more expensive frame from http://www.bassind.com/theatre_displ...er_frames.html or a $131 one from http://www.hometheatreinteriors.com/...=POSTER_FRAMES
I would rather have the plak mounting done.
This way I won't have to worry about UV non-glare plexiglass, acid free formcore, etc.
I was just going through too many changes on how to protect a $15 poster with an aluminum frame.
If I wanted to get backlit frames, I could diy or pay more from a home theater store.
I just thought the plak stuff looked much better.
I'm frugal (AKA Ms. Clark Howard for those of your know who Clark Howard is) but I will pay $25 - $40 per poster if the results look like this:

I am also in the same situation. I have two posters that I love, but they only cost me about $20, so I am trying to find a place to get cheap frames. However, I feel that $35 per frame is still more than I want to pay. Buying a frame that costs more than the poster itself just doesn't sit well with me.

My solution? There is a comic book type shop where I live called The Book Barn, and they have these big hard plastic sleeves for movie posters for $9.99. The best way to describe them is to think of those hard plastic sleeves used to protect baseball cards. Now imagine it big enough to hold a 27 X 40 movie poster.

Update (plak mounting)

I just called several places in Atlanta.
Two places quoted $87 and another one $101.

I called Dick Blick and they don't do plak mounting.



I have called framing places, art places and kinkos in Atlanta.
Seems like no one in Atlanta does plak mounting or the prices are too high.
I called www.plakit.com in Florida and asked if they had a location in Atlanta.
They said no.
They say that "plak it" is popular up north.

You're going to have to bite the bullet, and determine how much it's worth to you to have them framed/mounted.
I'd suggest Frameusa. They're decent, cheap frames, but they're cheap (no offense) posters.
IIR around $40+ for the two OS's you have is about right (plus shipping).

I've put a ton of money into my collection, and have had restoraton work and linenbacking done on posters many would consider worthless.
It all depends on what it's worth to you. Cheers.

Ugh.
Since the room where the posters are to be installed doesn't have sheetrock yet, I'll probably make up my mind then.
I just wish that http://store.yahoo.com/hollywoodgall...mounting1.html was located in Atlanta.
I'd have all my posters plak mounted without hesitation.
If I decide against the plak mounting, I'll go with frame usa.
I was going to go with frame usa from the start.

I found a neat poster that's 42x50, made for urban areas. Any inexpensive frames in that size, or should I just go with the standard 1-sheet size?

What the heck to they do for Plak mounting? Looks like it is just glued to some thin plywood/MDF with the edges sanded/painted. Then maybe a coat of spray Poly or something. Maybe a trial with a trashy poster, and then you can DIY!

Well considering that the current one-sheet size is 27x40, I don't think that would help you out to buy one of those .
That's an odd size, so custom ( expensive) framing would be the only option.
