Tony Sorprano Sings In His Car - but what was the song??

Tony is driving in his car, and he's singing along with a song on the radio, getting all into the song, banging the steering wheel like a lugoon, carrying on...

This was maybe two seasons ago, and it was a song I know I've heard before. A 70's song, perhaps? Does anyone remember the scene, and remember the name of the song?

Are you talking about first episode in Season 3?

I think you're talking about Season 2's episode "Big Girls Don't Cry". It was when Melfi was dreaming of Tony having a wreck. I don't remember the song though. Sorry.

When Melfi was dreaming of Tony having a wreck, I thought the song in the background was "You're Out of the Woods" from The Wizard of Oz ("You're out of the woods, you're out of the dark, you're out of the night. Step into the sun, step into the light, and open your eyes...")

Are you thinking of a scene in the third season, episode one, "Mr. Ruggierio's Neighborhood"??
It's a scene where the FBI has Tony's house all staked out and after the family each drives off seperately, they go inside and plant the listening device.

As Tony is driving away, he is singing: "I'm a fool to do your dirty work, oh oh"
"I don't wanna do your dirty work, no more"

Can't remember who that song is by though.

Is that the song you are thinking of??

Yeah, the song is called "Dirty Work" and is from Steely Dan's debut album "Can't Buy a Thrill". One of the only songs not sung by Donald Fagen.

Isn't there also an episode where he's singing Deep Purple's Smoke on the Water?

I guess it could be "Dirty Work," but I'd have to pull out my Steely Dan hits collection to be sure. But I think it was more commercial than that - and I know all of Steely Dan's commercial stuff, "Rikki," "Do It Again," etc.

Hmm. I'll check it out.

Didn'y he also sing the Shylytes' (sp) song on that episode from this season where he finds out Irina is dating that other guy. Anyone know the title of that? I think its the same song that Max Cherry was singing in "Jackie Brown".
