most brutal on screen beating ever filmed.

im thinking the scene in true romance where james gandolfini beats the crap out of pattritia arquette. that scene makes me squirm and is very very brutal.

It's implied but the scene in "Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels" where Big Chris (Vinnie Jones) is slamming this guys head with a car door repeatedly, eessh!

How about Fight Club, where the narrator beats up the blond guy. Check out the one on the deleted scenes, it's more graphic.

DeNiro takes some serious bruising in Raging Bull, as does Brando in On The Waterfront.
But ... for sheer on-screen brutality so over the top it defies description, check out the HK flick Story of Ricky.

Even though I haven't seen it in like 20 years, Fulci's The Beyond (I saw it when it was called 7 Doors of Death)had an opening scene of a guy getting whipped with chains. That stuck with me for a while.

The baseball-bat/cornfield sequence in Casino is quite horrific too.

I actually thought the version of the beating that made the movie was more horrific then the one in the deleted scenes.

I'll put another vote in for Casino. I think the sound of those bats alone ranks it among the best.

The scene in American History X when he stomps the guys head is definatley one of the most disturbing I've ever seen, can't think about it without getting the heebygeebys. Also when Edward Norton beats the crap out of the blond guy in fight club was pretty bad.

In Raging Bull when Pesci slams the guy in the taxi cab door (that's a great beatin')

In the Godfather when Talia Shires husband gets beat with a trash can (that's a great beatin')

Edward Norton has been in a couple severe beatings.American History X then Fight Club. This guy's blood thirsty. To me those are two of the most brutal beatings ever filmed.I'm sure there's more that i have forgotten.

and when Robocop is shoving Clarence through the panes of glass, that's pretty intense.

Deep Red - when one of the characters is getting stabbed and bashed around the room and specifically the part where his teeth are slammed in by the edge of the chimney shelf.

In "1900" when Donald Sutherland's character is swinging this kid around by his legs and intentionally bashes his head into the wall, again, again and again, while his wife is laughing manically.

Reminds me of that comical scene in "Harlem Nights" when Della Reis says to Eddie Murphy "Now your hurting people with Gaaarbage cans, now I got to cut ya"

Another one for Casino. I can't even watch that, and it appears edited (not sure if the scene was longer/more brutal).

I won't say it is the *most* brutal, but I was reminded of the baseball bat scene in The Untouchables.

Although not horribly graphic, I found the scene where Adam Goldberg's heart is slowly pierced in Saving Private Ryan unsettling and remains unwatchable for me to this day.

"Bad Lieutenant" (Unrated) - the scene where Harvey Keitel pulls over the car with the two teenage girls.

Now that's some brutal beating!
