[old fart ranting] How can anyone not know this is Sinatra? These kids today... [/old fart ranting]

Rypro, go educate yourself, pick up Sinatra: The Reprise Years, a very good 1-disc compilation of more swingin' tunes along the lines of "Love and Marriage," which is included.

Heh, I started to type a "how the hell could you not know who this is" response but changed my mind. I wholly agree that you should pick up a copy of Sinatra Reprise: The Very Good Years though, Rypro. It's an excellent introduction to Sinatra, featuring many of his best known tunes. And, yes, you will be a Sinatra fan after hearing it. The guy had a way with a song that has rarely, if ever, been matched.

Thanks for the Sinatra CD recommendation (although not directed at me). I'll probably check it out.

To get a bit deeper into him, I definitely suggest the 4-disc set "Capitol Years" -- excellent!

Everybody's a Sinatra fan. Whether you know it or not.

Love and Marriage is on the Capitol Collectors Series single CD greatest hits package, along with a bunch of other great material.

The Reprise collection is also great. I'm not sure if the single CD version is still available though.

But it was a classic for many, many years before "Married WIth Children" even existed.

Alright, I heard the original verison of the song last night as well as many other songs from the 20 track best of cd, and was impressed by most of his songs. I was a little bit surprised about how many of the songs I have heard before. But maybe because the bowling alley only had one speaker, the "love and marriage" song for some reason didn't sound like I expected. Are there different versions of the song, or just the one. I noticed that "Jason" in a preivious post mentioned something about a "cd single version", is that the as I would call it "married... with children" verison aka the shorter version?

Hampstead. It was a jukebox with a bunch of different artists. I got to hear like 6 or 8 songs from the cd at the alley.

I'm gonna give this thread another bump, and add that I too just picked up the Reprise: The Very Good Years CD earlier today, and I absolutely love it. I suppose I've always sort of enjoyed this kind of music in the background in movies and whatnot, but never really considered myself a fan of any particular artist. I am now.

What would be the next CD a beginner Sinatra fan should look for?

doubt it, because i imagine that there is no "shorter version". if it is like most of his songs, it is somewhere between 2 and 3.5 minutes long. if you were to cut that down any, you'd lose a lot of the song!

my personal fave sinatra song is "Young at Heart". although, "Three Coins in a Fountain" runs a close second.

You want this thread:

http://www.dvdtalk.com/forum/showthr...hreadid=264673

You'll see from there my recommendation would be 'Classic Sinatra: His Great Performances'. I find myself listening to it much more than 'The Very Good Years' disc. It also won't overlap your current disc. There are only 4 overlap titles out of 36, 3 of which are completely different in style.

I would advise that you avoid compilations as much as possible. Buy Songs For Swingin' Lovers, Songs For Young Lovers/Swing Easy, and In the Wee Small Hours, in any order. All three are on Capitol. I'm not so much a fan of his later stuff on Reprise. The Capitol albums had Sinatra doing more classic standards by Cole Porter, Rogers and Hart, etc., and many of the albums featured arrangements by Nelson Riddle.

Re: who does the married with children theme song?

ok, yes i know i'm bumping an over 7 year thread, but i found it via searching (i was trying to find this or a thread like it that i had made years ago) but i ended up buying my first sinatra cd "Nothing But the Best" which is the most recent gh album (remastered in 08) Man, i'm loving this album. Great stuff to relax to, also i know quite a few of these songs via the fact that all 3 of my jobs past and present have played his songs quite alot. my fave song of his is prob 'luck be a lady', and yes i first heard it in Mrs Doubtfire

Also quick question, have any of his songs been in any of the Scorsesse gangster movies?

I'm not a huge Sinatra fan but I did pick up this:

and this:

Great starter discs without the weepy love songs from that time and has a good variety of not just Frank.

The one song I seem to hear in all gangster movies/shows is "Ain't That A Kick In The Head"...but it's by Dean Martin.
