Did Martin Sheen ever play a president in a movie?

My cousin is convinced that he's seen Martin Sheen as the President of the United States in a film. He doesn't recall the title, though, and I'm puzzled as to which film is in question. He is not referring to The West Wing or The American President. Can anybody help out?

Sort of. In The Dead Zone there is a scene that flashes forward to a possible future with Sheen's character as president.

He played Kennedy in a miniseries about him back in the 80's.

You are thinking of William Devane ("Missles of October"). Sheen played Bobby Kennedy in that same show.

Maybe that's it. And yeah, I did consider the possibility that it may have been "The Dead Zone" but it apparently wasn't... Thanks for the replies.

In "The Goonies", Mouth says that he played President Kennedy once (in reference to the image found on a quarter at the bottom of the Astoria well).
