German DVD doesnt play in my DVD player

Hello. I just bought a DVD from amazon.de it is a German DVD. but on the back it says PAL ALL REGIONS. The language is german/english. the dvd format is dvd-video 5. My DVD player is a Sylvania DVD player, and I also have a PS2 capable of playing dvd's. Both do not play the DVD. What can I do to get it to work?
I would greatly appreciate any help you could give me. Thank you!

...do you live in the USA?... if yes, you can be 99.999% sure that your Sylvania player is not equipped to play PAL discs, period... note that, with very few exceptions, all European (Region 2 as well as Region 0) DVDs are PAL, not NTSC...

Wait! You don't need just a region free DVD player. You also need the player to have the capability to convert a PAL DVD to play on your NTSC TV.

...what axolotls return said... that is, assuming you are indeed watching DVDs on an NTSC display... so how come you - being a 'newbie' to this Forum - just happened to buy a ( ? only one ? ) ( ? which title ? ) German DVD, that also just happens to be PAL ALL REGIONS (not all that common in Region 2, unless, of course, it's a German 'adult' title) ... he asked, suspiciously, beginning to smell a rat, somewhere, somehow...

...anyway, and fwiw, take a look here...
