review wanted: mclintock (released 7/30/02?)
according to the best buy website, a version of the john wayne movie mclintock was released july 30, 2002. from what i hear, the previous version had a terrible transfer. does this release have a new transfer or is it basically the same thing with different cover art?
thanks,

...don't know... BUT ...years ago I bought the original release, which I kept as
a stunning example of the evils of a) bad DVD authoring (somewhat forgiveable, since this was still very early days for DVD) and b) panning-and-scanning - this is a "Filmed In Panavision" movie, as the (letterboxed) opening credits proudly announce in big, bold letters - that means the movie was filmed anamorphically on 35mm stock for a TAR (Theatrical Aspect Ratio) of 2.35:1 - after the opening credits the transfer reverts to fullscreen 4:3 and looks *d*r*e*a*d*f*u*l*...
...so... all I can say is caveat emptor
or, in plain English, rent before you buy... (the movie itself is quite good!)
