General Bjork Confusion

What is the deal with the new Bjork releases?

Greatest Hits - seems to be the only way to get the new songs (It's in Our Hands and Play Dead - never before on an official album)

Family Tree - Contains the five 3" discs (what?) as well as a greatest hits disc (but with neither of the above songs). Do these 3" discs work in most cd players?

This is so frustrating. I am a long time Bjork fan but only have so much cash in my wallet. Has anybody read a review of these releases? Also, is there a dvd video anthology also being released. Is so, what is on it?

What exactly should I buy? I have all of her studio albums as well as the Dancer in the Dark soundtrack. My gut says go with the Family Tree box set but it seems the five 3" discs only have 3-5 songs on each of them.

Any clarification on these releases or suggestions are appreciated.

thanks,

BBP

Is the Greatest Hits DVD being released in the US? I don't see any listings for it online. It seems to be the same as the Volumen DVD + 7 more videos.

"It's in Our Hands" will be released as a single, and "Play Dead" is readily available on one of her "Debut"-era singles (maybe "Venus as a Boy") and on the import version of "Debut". So yes, these two songs can be had without the purchase of her greatest hits.

The "Family Tree" box set, however, is loaded with unreleased and rare material that should be essential to any Bjork fan.

I am still confused on the dvd. Is this being released this tuesday? And if so, are there any special features?

Here is my understanding of the releases:

Family Tree - November 5th:

Family Tree is a boxed set of her past work, with unreleased tracks or different versions of older tracks. For instance, on the Beats cd, the version of "The Modern Things" is different from the album version from Post. Another example would be the song "Gloria" on the Roots 3 inch cd. Its a flute performance Bjork did when she was a kid. The Family Tree set also has Bjork's selection of her "Greatest Hits."

It's basically a boxset for hardcore collector fans. I have heard it, and I enjoy it, but I wouldn't suggest it to anyone other than a huge Bjork fan.

The 3 inch mini cds work in most cd players.

Greatest Hits - November 5th:

These were songs chosen by her fans, with "It's In Our Hands" thrown on.

DVD Releases

Volumen 2 - December 2nd:

Collection of all of her videos to date, including some behind the scenes footage of one of her tours.

Volumen Plus - December 2nd:
This is a collection of the videos made since the release of Volumen 1. I guess people complained that they didn't want to buy the new Volumen 2 which would basically make their Volumen 1 obsolete, so the company decided to make this at a cheaper price. So if you have Volumen 1 and Volumen Plus, you'd ave all of her videos. Myself, I'm gonna buy Volumen 2 and pawn off Volumen 1.

Greatest Hits DVD - December 2nd:
I'm not sure, as there hasn't been any concrete news, but I think this is Volumen 2 renamed for an overseas release.

Royal Opera House DVD - November 19th:
Footage of her performance at the Royal Opera House on Dec 16th, 2001.

Hope I helped.

So.. since I don;t yet have Volumen 1, I can just get VOlumen 2 and have every video? Or would I still need Volumen 1?

Yeah, you can just go ahead and buy Volumen 2 and you'd have all of her videos.
