Best Surprise in a game....not scary surprise

Like something that when it happened you grinned from ear to ear, or something like that...

I was playing Super Mario RPG the other night and in one spot, I forget his name, but the dude's tower...anyway, there is one screen that has a curtain covering part of the screen. And like most people, I was curious as to what was behind there, maybe a treasure chest or something. So I go behind, and when I come out, the original Mario music comes on, and the graphics of Mario change to the old 2d Super Mario from SMB1 !!! Then when the music dies down, he gets small, as if he was hit, and jumps like he dies! That had me smiling for at least 10 mintutes afterwards.

What about you?

The Baby Metroid coming to save you at the end of Super Metroid is still one of my all time favorite surprises in a game.

Not necessarily a good surprise, but
Spoiler:
Aeris's death
in Final Fantasy VII was certainly unexpected and made the game's story near perfect.

I never even got into FF at all till FFVII and that one still had me stunned. Been a fan of the series since then.

Ya FF7 was a good one that got my attention real quick, but the one that really got me was when I finally beat Metroid to find out my favorite game was lead by no other then a chick, now I get wood every time I see Samus in that sleek space suit.

If I recall that happened when my 3 year old was watching me play. I thought my wife was going to kill me. I was diving for the reset button. The game was fairly non violent until that happened (at least not blatent)...

The original Metroid. Samus Aran is a babe in a bikini. I know they are a dime a dozen in games now, but back then that was very cool. Eat your heart out Lara Croft.
