Hou Hsiao-Hsien DVD boxset--breaking news

The long over-due Hsiao-Hsien DVD boxset, which includes
-----Time to Live and Time to Die
-----Boys From Fengkuei
-----Summer at Grandpa
-----Dust in the Wind,
will be available in Taiwan at the beginning of Nov.
You can find them at FNAC(Taiwan) and Elitebooks(the biggest books chainstore in Taiwan).
The distributor is already done the pre-sale during the Golden Horse Film Fest in Taipei.
The price will be TWD1500(Taiwan New Dollar)~=USD35.
It is widescreen(not sure about 16x9 transfer)with
Chinese/English subs.

I'll post more update in a few days when I have the copy.

Don't ask me where to order in the Net cause I don't know any Taiwan site does international order.

I believe NT$1500 is closer to $43 US. Just a thought. Still a decent deal though.

The following are the specs:
R0, ntsc, D-9, ws(non 16x9), optional eng, chi, jap subs.
no extra features. Beautiful notepad design, 52 pages booklet(chinese with a lot of photos).
The print used is dirty and scratched, however The transfer is clear.

Sorry I left out the sound. It is DD 2.0.
The first impression is I am disappointed about the remastering effort as well as without Hou's commentary track, considering they had spent about a year to produce this boxset. On the same token, this dvd boxset is much better than the City of Sadness dvd.
You can mail order this boxset at the distributor's website:http://shopping.1bits.com/product/de...20&ky=&pid=130
However you have to pay an expensive shipping charge--over 800 Taiwan dollars.

WOW!! This is very exciting news as I'm a huge fan. Cineaste has a nice interview/article with Hou in their current issue. Any retailers shipping this to the US? If not, I may have to fly to Taiwan to get it!! WOW WOW WOW!!! HAPPY DAY HAPPY DAY

hey snowchasse -- if you have any room in your suitcase on the way back from Taiwan, I'll bet there are quite a few of us here in the states who'd be veeeeery appreciative if you could bring back a few of these sets (hint hint)...

Of course! I'm heading to Japan next month, so I might just have to make a stop in Taipei for my Hou fix. Hot diggity Hou! Then it'd really be a merry Christmas. Hou Hou Hou!

I couldn't wait any longer!! I snagged one off ebay. This is the first box set that actually caused me to jump up and down when it arrived. WOOHOO!! I watched it all this weekend, and will be posting a review soon. There are still some copies on fleabay. Well worth it, fantastic packaging. Grab them while you can!

Anyone know if they'll be releasing more Hou films like this?

Just got mine for eBay ...

Recently got this from eBay ... all that! All four movies have English subs. The 70-page booklet is all in Chinese, but it does have a lot of nifty pictures from the film. I know Wellspring has the rights on two of these films ("A Time to Live, "A Time to Die" and "Dust in the Wind"), but for some reason they haven't put these out yet. I think the set is really worthwhile getting, despite the transfers and sound are mediocre at best.
