Wow, new F-Zero Gamecube footage!

Sega has shown a new trailer of their F-Zero Gamecube game. And holy crap does it rock!

IGN was there and have posted their videos of the trailer. The footage is not direct-feed, but you can still see the amazing job Sega has done. This game looks beautiful and the trademark F-Zero speed looks unbelievable!

So this is like a WipEout type of game? Looks kinda cool... Gamecube needs a game like this. I've been having fun with Quantum Redshift... This looks like it has a few tricks up its sleeve over Redshift and WipEout though.

No no.. wipeout is like an f-zero type of game.

I wonder if this game will have a map editor.. Supposedly the F-Zero Expansion Kit was one of the few games produced for the 64DD.. and was the only one that was good. It let you make maps for the F-zero n64 game.. pretty cool. Hopefully they implement something like that here.. And I remember hearing that you'll be able to take your GC memory card to the arcade machine and use it somehow... maybe to play custom maps in the arcade?

I thought WipEout had been around for like 8 years or so... when did F-Zero come out?

Nintendo released the original F-Zero Super Nintendo game in 1990. Wipeout was released for Playstation in 1995.

Ahh... I see. Can I see a screen shot of the original F-Zero? I'm curious.

Apparently dvdtalks BB software doesn't recognize png images. Just copy and paste. Sorry.

Here are a couple I found.

If you like Wipeout and QR I think you might like Fzero. The N64 was pretty good, but to keep the frame rate high they had to have very bland backgrounds and scenery. The Cube version looks light years ahead of the 64 version.

I was thinking the same thing when I read that. Actually, the Gameboy Advance version is pretty similar to the SNES version.

And man 'o man, those videos. I had forgotten about this exclusive. Chalk that one as another in N's corner.

Geez - the original f-zero is nothing like the original WipEout. It reminded me alot of Extreme G, but not Wipeout. If this game is more like Extreme G 3, then I'll probably pass cuz that was kinda boring... this does look pretty badass though... we'll see.

Thanks for the videos and shots - that's funny.

Why does it remind you more of extreame G?

Extreme G? I'm not getting that. I can't stand EG, but love FZ. FZero is ALL about speed and racing. No weapons. They get in the way when you are flying/driving so fast.

Hell I don't know - I only played Extreme G 3 and it was just like this... fast racing - you can't really crash, low emphasis on the weapons, you can drive through this re-charging lane to power up your turbo, etc... it just reminds me of it. If F-Zero has no weapons, then what's the fun?

F-zero was fun simply for the speed. It was the first of these "super fast racers."

WipeOut and the other games just added on to the formula by throwing weapons in their. I never liked them as well. I prefered the fast racing without the combat emphasis.

Though F-Zero X on the added a combat emphasis, with a spin attack and side ram. You pretty much had to kill your "rival" to have any chance of winning the points championship. The tracks were pretty sweet too with loops, cork screws and big jumps.

Err, most racing games don't have weapons and they're still fun. Why does a futuristic racer require weapons?

Actually, in terms of gameplay, the Extreme G series plays closer to the WipeOut series than it does to the F-Zero series.
