Mike Leighs Naked R4!But it's pan and scan.Grrr

http://www.ezydvd.com.au/item.zml/221463/id=Pg3zI:PrSoX Finally this gets released...one of my most wanted dvds, and they do this!I sent off this letter to the company involved here: shock records .

Hi.I recently bought your release of Black Books, which I enjoyed immensely...a beautiful anamorphic widescreen transfer(I've never seen TV look so good)and great extras.
Today I discovered that you are about to release one of my Top 5 favourite films ever,Mike Leighs 'Naked'.I have been scouring websites worldwide since I bought my DVD player 2 1/2 years ago for any hint of this film coming out,so I was delighted to find it posted on cd-wow.com in the UK.My elation has been spoiled though, now that I have found it reported at several Australian websites, that you have taken the unfathomable step of chopping off the sides of the movie, and releasing this in the cropped Pan and Scan format! Why would you do this to one of my favourite movies? What was immediately a must-buy will have to wait until some company elsewhere in the world treats this movie with the respect it deserves, and releases it in its original aspect ratio.I recently had to order in the Three Colours Trilogy DVDs from the UK at great expense because you released these fantastic movies with picture information cropped from 1.78:1 down to 1.33:1,with a transfer that looked like it had come off VHS...a far cry fom the beautiful anamorphic transfers, and extensive extras the UK discs boasted.I didn't mind so much about having to get those in,I'm used to movies being treated like that in Region 4,but you are about to bring out the only version in the world of this movie, and you let me down by doing this.It mystifies me why you would treat Mike Leighs legacy like this, when you clearly can put out fantastic DVDs,like Black Books.
Please....release Naked widescreen so I can finally have it in my collection...you don't even have to enhance it for widescreen tvs(although that would be nice)....I guarrantee people like myself worldwide will order it if you keep the theatrical aspect ratio...It is one of the most requested discs at the American DVD internet forums I visit, where people go to great lengths to order movies from all over the world....I'm just saying you would have the only release in the world for a while, and not many collectors would touch a pan and scanned version of a film.I personally will wait another 2 1/2 years if I have to, rather than buy this.
Do it out of respect for the film-makers vision.
Ben Simpson.

...ahh... the IMDb gives the AR as 1.66:1 - could it be the R4 release is simply 'open matte' ?... after all, the movie was co-produced by Channel Four, a TV company if I'm not mistaken...

...just a thought...

. . . . . .
