You might not be aware that there is now a special 3-disk edition that's pretty loaded: Von Trier's commentary, deleted scenes with optional commentary, Emily Watson's casting session with commentary, a tribute to Katrin Cartlidge, an interview with Adrian Rawlins, a lot of trailers and an abridged version of the docu 'Tranceformer.'

It's released by Zentropa Entertainments1.

Is the special edition available to order online?

I recall reading somewhere that the 3-disc set was released in Portugal, but I can't seem to find it on any Portuguese online etailer.

I have the excellent French disc.

It's now been released in the UK very cheap and it's anamorphic and correctly framed.

Remember unlike the horrible USA disc these discs are uncut.

Something seems to have happened to the Portuguese release ("Ondas de Paixão"). It was available at FNAC for awhile but has mysteriously disappeared. Maybe it was pushed back so as to avoid competing with the identical Danish release (which doesn't have a date yet). The UK edition -- which, judging from the specs, is identical to the first disc of the as-yet-unreleased Portuguese/Danish editions, but is missing the second disc with the bulk of the extras -- is your best bet if you absolutely can't wait.

Also, the U.S. version isn't misframed -- the packaging erroneously claims it's 1.85:1 but it is most definitely 2.35:1. It is nonanamorphic and slightly cut (2-3 seconds), however. Given that the UK version is only slightly more expensive there's no reason to go with the Artisan disc if you have multi-region capability.

How long is the Korean disc? There was some question awhile back whether it was the 153-minute director's cut or the 158-minute extended cut that played theatrically in the U.S. but has never made it to video.

You can find it on www.cede.ch. Don't know if they deliver outside Switzerland though.

Yes it looks like the Portuguese edition - all bonus features have optional Portuguese subtitles.

ARISE, THREAD

Danish 2-disc SE, out 12/2

Looks identical to the (mysteriously vanished) Portuguese set and the Swiss editions at Grubert's link, except it's quite clearly a two-disc release. I suspect the sites claiming they have a three-disc version are mistaken but I don't have any proof of that.

Heh, my Breaking the Waves does have three discs. I counted them.

The thing is, the third disc contains only the movie dubbed in French, so it's pretty much useless anywhere else.

I watched BtW yesterday and the image quality is good. Some occasional dirt, and shadow detail is nothing to write home about, but I suspect this is because of the successive transfers the film suffered (film-to-video-to-film-to-MPEG).

That would make sense. Looks like the Danish release has an Italian dub track. Huh?

Not for a while, I'm hard up for money at the moment. Some folks at the Criterion forums might be willing to oblige with a review.

Yes, but their shipping rates appear to be calculated by weight so I'm not sure how much you'd end up paying.
