Where does "Lizard King" come from?
I always see Jim Morrison reffered to as the Lizard King. Where did that name come from? The only thing I have come up with so far is that it was the title of one of his poems.

I dont know the answer to that, but I do know the answer to another nickname of his...
Know the significance of
MR MOJO RISIN'
?
He often checked in to hotels under this name, and of course, there's the lyrics in LA WOMAN:
Mister Mojo risin', Mister Mojo risin'
Mister Mojo risin', Mister Mojo risin'
Got to keep on risin'

At the end of his song "Not To Touch The Earth" (an excerpt from his concert number "The Celebration of the Lizard") he recites, "I am the Lizard King...I can do anything". It seemed profound then, now it just sounds like some Walt Disney/Peter Pan riff.

Jim was deep into Native American mythology and mysticism. The lizard represented his spirit guide I think. Either way, when he said he was the Lizard King, he meant it!

I told my wife it was because of the size of his "lizard". What I didn't realize is that she wouldn't understand it was a joke and told all her friends.
