Jef Films: one of the biggest "legit" bootleggers in the US.

Yep,

it's a music issue. It was released in a good version in Spain, but it's out of print. It also didn't have subtitles.

I don't know ... I have a few very nice Spanish SEs as de la Iglesia movies that look good to me (Communidad, 800 Balas, Muertos de Risa). But Accion Mutante and Dia de la Beastia need good DVDs badly (at least with English subs).

Very easy answer...most of them that get released in the US somehow always end up in the hands of very ambitious labels: Vanguard, Facets, First Run Pictures.

Somewhat the same maxima holds true in Spain: Filmax.

agreed. Also stay away from Venevision. they dub spanish movies into spanish. have you ever heard of this? they take films from spain and dub them into latin american i.e. mexican spanish. this is just horrible, besides their lack of respect for OAR and optional subtitles, etc. horrible, horrible stuff.

If we shall speak about bottom of the barrel labels then yes no one beats Ventura (Venevision) and Vanguard. I am absolutely amazed to see that Lola Films, one of the big production houses in Spain, deals with these con-artists.

More than a few times I've discussed with people within the film industry how these people manage to survive...they must sell their product to someone! The sad thing is that Ventura in particular has a great selection of titles that if Home Vision were to release in the US...I would probabably buy 85% of them. (We do not even review them at TALK...that should tell you something...)
