There hasn't been too much recently... you can pick up plenty of game of the year games for a reasonable price now... most of the exciting stuff is really close to being released. Doom 3, Duke Nukem Forever, Deus Ex 2, No One Lives Forever 2... etc...

As for recent games, I don't know what you like - but here's a list that should give you ideas...

The Thing
Soldier of Fortune 2
Warcraft III
The Sims (and expansion packs)
Return to Castle Wolfenstein
Clive Barker's Undying
Jedi Knight 2
Mafia
No One Lives Forever
Deus Ex
Half-Life (Counterstrike, Blue Shift, and Opposing Force as well)
Quake 3
Unreal Tournament
Medal of Honor
Battlefield 1942
GTA III
Serious Sam 1 and 2 are super cheap and not bad.
America's Army is a free game and it's pretty fun... surprisingly well done. And it's free.

I'll second these from Trigger's list:

(although it's a half-hearted recommendation)
Jedi Knight 2
Deus Ex

Medal of Honor
GTA III
And I'll add:

Freedom Force
The Baldur's Gate series
Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri
Planescape: Torment
LucasArts flight sims (X-Wing, Tie Fighter, Alliance)
SWAT 3

The last four can be found in bargain bins for $10-$20, and they're excellent.

And speaking of upcoming games, there's a Medal of Honor: AA expansion coming out soon called MOH:AA - Spearhead, which will probably be well worth it.

There hasn't been that many great PC games lately IMO. The best one I've played recently is Ghost Recon. It's a military FPS from the Tom Clancy/Rainbow 6 team. The game also has 2 expansion packs: Desert Siege and the upcoming Island Thunder.

What type of games do you like to play? Lately, the only game I've been playing is Warcraft III... it's like crack, only in electronic form.

I like FPS's, action, rpgs, RTS(probably my favorite). I like strategy games too.

It's a totally free FPS. It was designed as a recruitment tool of sorts for the Army. They spent lots of money producing it and yet we don't have to buy it - it's free. It's not a mod either.

Totally free and totally kickass. Uses the UT2003 engine as well.
