Series2 Directivo info

From tivo community....

Just had to check on a couple of things, I wasn't at the DIRECTV press conference yesterday myself.

Let's see...

Cost: $199 for the receiver, $4.99/mo for the service, free if you're a Total Choice Premiere customer. All confirmed, all true.

In addition, it was announced that this new pricing will apply to all existing subscribers. So if you've got a Series1 combo system, your monthly fee will be coming down. There was no announcement regarding the timing of this - but it was stated that current subscribers would receive a letter explaining the change. Again, no timing was given. Did I mention that no timing was given? Nor was anything announced regarding existing lifetime subscriptions.

Features: Up to 35 hours, twin tuners, dolby digital, USB 2.0. All confirmed, all true.

One caveat...the USB ports are described as being for "future expansion", however, that can mean many things. No details on what those ports will be used for was announced. There wasn't anything else announced regarding the hardware capabilities/features.

That's the public information...

Cheers,
Pony

Dan Collins over at DBSForums.com indicated that there would be other units available that had the bigger HD's in them, but the 35 hour unit would be the first one available....

the 199 price is a really strong selling price, I predict most people who sign up for directv will buy one of these now.

I will wait for the bigger drive versions to come out before I make the switch, or at least I think I will, who knows...

Maybe the new one will be cooler, although I hope the remote stays as cool as the one they have now...

is there any place to check this info out because I'm about to get directv and this might affect what package I get. would the lifetime price be cut in half too?

On the directv website they say that the unit will be marketed to existing customers primarily, and there probably won't be a discount for new subscriptions.
