Review:Herzog/Kinski Box Set
I put off getting these titles in hopes of a compilation and my efforts were not in vain.
Anchor Bay has released a 6 disc set of Herzog and Kinski's collaborations 5 films and the Documentary Herzog made on Kinski called MY BEST FIEND.
What a set. For starters the box is the classiest looking thing yet to be released by Anchor Bay, Inside the white shell box are
6 colored slimline cases containing the films +an 18 pg Booklet
The anamorphic discs are as follows
Aguirre:The Wrath of God 1.33:1 -german and english
Woyzeck-1.85:1
Nosferateau-1.85:1
Fitscarraldo-1.85:1-german and english
Cobra Verde -1.77:1-german and english
My Best Fiend-1.77:1 -german and english
What a collection Aguirre is monumental filmmaking and the insight that can be garnered from MBF and the commentary track is fabulous. Not to mention that the FULL FRAME image looks incredible for a film from 1972.
In fact every disc except Woyzeck and My Best Fiend have commentary tracks (in english) and they are all very interesting.
Nosferateau sports a stunning new transfer but is only the German version (it was also filmed in English)
Truly a must own set for cinephiles and foreign film buffs. Limited to 5,000 this is a shining jagged diamond that belongs in your collection. Sadly the Documentary about the Making of Fitzcarraldo is not included.
