Modify US Gamecube
Does anyone know anywhere in Southern California to get a US Gamecube modified to play Japanese games? One store told me they could do it, now they are backing out.

they might be backing out for a reason. theres legal stuff behind modifying a system. you may screw it up and simply by opening it messing with it you void the warrenty.

This site has a tutorial if you're brave enough to do it on your own.

They'll also mod your system for a fee if you ship it to them.
The only thing wrong with modding a console to play import games is you'll void your warranty. It's not illegal or anything.

Store don't want to touch it because of the warranty problem. not to mention if there is a problem with the machine they don't want to take responsiblity because of it screwing up.

That thread has info on a Universal Gamecube boot disc that's coming out that will let you play Japanese games on a U.S. system. All you have to do is pop this disc in first, then the japanese game. There was a disc like this for the Dreamcast and it worked fine.

Thanks guys I was actually able to find a store to do the mod. I had heard about the freeloader disk, but I really don't like disk swapping. I wouldn't mind doing the mod myself except I don't know how to solder and I don't have the gamebit required to remove the case.
