$500 budget for 5.1 speakers setup

This is for basic HT. All I need is 5.1 speakers for around $500. Thought of Energy Take 5 with their 8" sub for about 17'x10' room. Any other suggestions that's better than the Take 5 at this price range?

BTW, for 10" sub, I would increase my budget to $600 price range. I bet you can tell I'm not an expert here, so any suggestions would really help. Thank you.

I have the RCA RT2500
works good, I've seen people bash it but it has dts and dolby digital and sounds as good as any other $500 system I've heard in stores

Energy Take 5

As you said, you were thinking about it. Just do it. They are to die for...i should be able to grab my set in a few months, as I've been saving, waiting, and drooling for them...

I second the PSB Alpha suggestion. They are an incredible value even at full retail.

PSB Alpha AV + subzero looks good (from reviews), and the JBL SCS135 too. I know where to find the dealers in bay area and will test them out I won't buy it until end of August... hopefully I've plenty of time to get the one I really like. Thanks for the suggestions.

I have SuperOne's and Zeros in my HT and love them. But I rarely recommend them because they are hard to drive and don't mate well w/ lots of receivers. With the right electronics upstream, though, they certainly can sing.

Check out this Flunace Set... they sound very clear and crisp. It does not include a sub though... I have this set along with there bi-poles and the sound is great! When I get some more cash, I'm going to get a set for my master bedroom...

http://www.fluance.com/fluanceavhtb.html. The dealer also sells on ebay too.

Btw, make sure you let the speakers play for a few days before you past judgement....
