OK I have the Sony DA5ES about 3 months old and hate it. I paid only $750.00 for it (plus tax) and now I have a chance to get the Yamaha for $1299.99. I would only have to pay the differene of $594.00. What do you guys think? Now it will be 2 years old come October but this unit is brand new in the box from Ultimate Electronics.
Thanks.RX-V1
Correction on the price. It is now $1299.00

They don't sell Onkyo at Ultimate Electronics. I can only get Store Credit back on my Sony. I looked a Onkyo some time ago and the power just didn't seem to be there. I also looked at the Denon AVR-5803 but I didn't want to pay that much($2900.00) ahhhh.

I bought the Yamaha DSP-A1 back about five years ago when it was one of only two receivers available that did DTS processing (it's actually an integrated amp since it doesn't have a tuner). While it doesn't have some of the newer processing like Dolby Digital 6.1 or DTS-ES (like the RX-V1 has), it is so good I can't see replacing it for many more years.
Since the Yamaha RX-V1 was the successor to the DSP-A1 and is even better, and you can get it for that price (when it first came out, the RX-V1 listed for $3199), I think it's a no-brainer.

I purchased the RX-V1 with the remote for this price and do not regret it at all.
It is not the latest piece of hardware and will not do 7.1 etc but for the money I think this is a steal.
Even in a few years I should be able to recoup a large portion of the cost if I want to upgrade.
Good luck!
