Highly unlikely as you really need to aim a UHF type antenna directly at the source.
Personally I have been recommended this one

However, since these are Over-The-Air signals it is very much like having a tv antenna in your attic for regular network TV.
You may want to consult an antenna company in your area and ask them!
Good luck!

I live in a suburb of Chicago and am using $15 indoor VHF/UFH antenna I bought from bestbuy. I get signal strengths in the 70-90 range for dtv stations.

Word on the street around here is to get the Double Bow Tie set-top antenna from Radio Shack. It's Catalog #15-623. It's apparently better than the Jensen linked above for about the same price.

Edited: Not all stations broadcast in HD all the time, only few shows, i.e., The Tonight Show, Crossing Jordan, NYPD, Alias ... Depends on your city. But they all are digital TV.

Wow, thanks for all the advice. Just another lesson in my continuing education in RPTV, widescreen, & HDTV!!!!! Why do you think there is such a strong perception that you must have an outside antenna in order to get local HDTV broadcasts???

Well, shows what I know...
What kind of input are you folks running this into? I have a loop in my den that I might hook up to see what happens.
And, what's all this about needing a HDTV set top tuner then?

I went to Radio Shack and the Jerk there said they do not carry the double bow tie. I went to walmart and they had an RCA model for 39.99 that was suppose to do uhf/vhf with a 40db amp. It looks stupid, rabbit ears and a mini dish looking thing. I hooked it up to my Zenith DTV1080 and turned my Mitsu WS65908 to DTV and BAM!!!!! They all come in. NBC and ABC do not come in because of the Towers. They will be back in operation by the end of the year. But I get:
CBS(2-1) 80%
FOX(5-1) 80%-this is digital, not hd-480P only
UPN(5-2) 80%-480P only
43-2 and 43-3-these are both PBS stations, but one shows loops that will convert any non believer to buy an HDTV!!! WOW!!! The clarity is amazing. Watch the loop for 10 minutes and DVD's look grainy!!!!!!!

DOH! I did not know that. Here's another dumb question. I went and got the double bow tie Radio Shack model. It has twin flat leads. My Mits has a coaxial input and they state in the owners manual not to use twin flats cause it may mess up the TV, so what do you do? Is there like an adaptor or somethin I need to buy? Sorry for my ignorance.

Basically, the closer you are to the signal, the cheaper the satellite you can use. I started with a Terk indoor/outdoor flat antenna that the salesman assured me would work, but all I could get was CBS' HD. They screwed me on the installation, so they upgraded me to the Winegard digital antenna ($700) for free, which pulled in all the local HD stations for me. I also had it put on a remote controlled rotor to spin it for best reception. So if you're close & not obstructed by mountains, etc. a cheap antenna should work. If not, you'll need a more expensive one.
