DVD Audio sound problems

I have a DVD player with DVD Audio capabilities (JVC XV-SA70BK) and when I play the DVD Audio sampler disc it came with, the sound only comes out of the TV speakers and not the surrounds. Is this because no digital signal is being sent to my receiver via the optical digital cable? (The DVD Video's sound and look fine). The sound from the DVD-A comes out of my TV Speakers (I have the analog audio connected from the DVD to the TV). Do I need to connect the audio cables from the DVD player to the receiver's Audio IN (only a Left and a Right) to get the sound from the speakers? If this is the case, will a DVD-A never have the 5.1 surrounds operating or is it disc specific on whether it sends out a signal through the Digital Out?
Equipment: DVD Video/Audio player: JVC XV-SA70BK
Receiver: AIWA AV-DV70
TV: Sony WEGA KV36HS20

Thanks!

The dvd-audio signal can't be passed through the optical or coaxial cables. It must go out 6 sepertate cables (RCA style- I use Monster) & you have to use a 6-channel input on your receiver, which will bypass the receivers decoder & use your players. This is the only way to utilize the dvd-audio for some copyright reason. The 6 seperate outputs makes it harder to copy or something. So your receiver has to have that input, and you have to select it or it will sound like stereo with stuff missing. I'd still use the optical for movies though, since the receiver's decoder is probably better. My dvd-audio is Kenwood's 403 disc player that goes for $1500, and I still use the receiver for movies rahter than the player's decoder. honestly I don't hear much of a difference between the dvd-audio and DTS cds or the 5.1 mixes on the dvd-audios or on music dvds. The only plus is the extra material that you only get on the dvd-audio portions.
