Amazon ~ This Is Great (Not!)

Amazon ~ This Is Great (Not!)

Ok here it goes…………

On May 16th I ordered Mr. Deeds Goes to Town (1936) and pre-ordered She Wore a Yellow Ribbon (1949) and The Verdict (1982).

It is now June 17th and I am told the order will not arrive until July 24th!!!!!!!! Here’s why ~

Date Time Location Service Area Checkpoint Details

Jun 17, 2002 09:07:00 AM SALT LAKE CITY UT US IN TRANSIT TO
Jun 17, 2002 09:06:00 AM RENO NV US DEPARTURE SCAN
Jun 17, 2002 07:30:08 AM RENO NV US LOCATION SCAN
Jun 11, 2002 08:29:00 PM CACH IL US UNLOAD SCAN
Jun 11, 2002 05:51:00 AM CACH IL US ARRIVAL SCAN
Jun 06, 2002 10:04:00 PM RENO NV US DEPARTURE SCAN
Jun 06, 2002 02:12:29 PM RENO NV US ORIGIN SCAN
Jun 05, 2002 05:02:25 PM US BILLING INFORMATION RECEIVED
Jun 05, 2002 10:36:48 AM FERNLEY NV US SHIPPED

You will notice that the DVDs were shipped from Fernley, NV to Reno, NV, only to go to Chicago, Il, so they can be shipped back to Reno, NV. Now they’re in Salt Lake City, UT!!! I’m in NYC. There is something very wrong here.

Now Amazon says it’s shipping me a replacement and that I should keep the first delivery and send the second delivery (which ever it may be) back.

They didn’t even offer a GC for my troubles.

This type of mailing delay (which is not the first time) added to Amazon’s higher prices (compared to DDD and others) is the reason I now only buy from Amazon when using my Nextcard GC (as in this case).

What a mess.

Directly yes........However, it's been happening too often with my Amazon orders in the past 6 months. To me that makes it their problem too. IMHO

A fair question on your part though

I'm not so sure. Amazon prints the mailing labels up themselves with the barcodes. Somewhere along the line it seems a barcode got messed up, either in the printing process or damaged in transit. Theoretically, it could keep going back and forth forever if the system isn't designed to kick out bad barcodes.

Reminds me of the time one of my credit card companies misaligned the printing on their bill. I mailed my payment to them and received it back 2 days later, stamp cancelled and everything as if it was successfully delivered. Upon closer inspection I noticed that when they misaligned the printing, the barcode for my address was showing through the window on the envelope instead of the barcode for the bank I was mailing my payment to. So the computer system read it and routed it to me.

BTW: New Jersey, where the state motto should be Leave No Tree Standing I have heard a rumor that one day NJ will be one big mall. However, it's only a rumor

Seriously, it wouldn't surprise me. Within 12 miles of my house there are 5 shopping malls.

And they are constantly leveling acres of fields and trees to build more malls, houses, office parks, etc. I have a 12 mile commute to work. Five years ago when I started working here, that drive took 20 minutes. Now it takes 45. And the last remaining stretch of undeveloped property along the way is threatened; the property owner, who is also a state politician (and, incidentally, owned the grocery store I worked at through high school and college) wants to level all the trees and build a "downtown center" for a large suburban town, complete with housing, offices and retail.

One day, New Jersey is going to look like Coruscant.
