SLT jerk

I have over 400 people on my Amazon friends from the STL in the bargins section. I've never had any problems getting or sending STL offers until now. I got an email saying:

This is the second time I've had to warn you. If I receive another one of these you will become a project. I'm not sure how things work in Atlanta, but we have lots of free time here in Minnesota. Fair warning...

I'm not even from Atlanta and I didn't recieve(or at least notice) a first email and promptly removed him from my friends list this time. So just a friendly reminder: If you don't want to recieve a STL email... DON'T SIGN UP TO GET THEM!!!!!
I go to this site all the time and I never feel the need to post but I just needed to vent. Sorry for bending your ears.
I like recieving STL about movies I didn't request because sometimes I order movies that I wouldn't have thought of. I would like to know if others hate recieving STL from Amazon friends even when they didn't request a certain title. I may stop sending them to people that are on my list if they didn't request them in the future based on the poll. Thanks.

WEll considering that once you send someone STL for an item they want their added to your Amazon Friends list and you automatically send them STL on every purchase. I wouldn't blame the STL sender for this.

That said. I like it, it gives me tons of discoutns

It's part of the game.... if they ask for STL, they get STL... they shouldn't be upset they get more. Personal opinion.

It isn't hard to delete mail messages. And I think you can even create a setting not to be notified.

If you don't want STL, don't ask for it.

I get my share of STL emails for titles I know I didnt sign up for, but have a simple solution. I delete the emails and move on.

Threatening people doesnt accomplish anything...beyond making yourself a pariah in the community.

I don't mind all the e-mails since I like getting STL for things I purchase and put up with the ones that don't interest me. But I have had a few people request they be removed from my STL list. Some have been very polite and others very rude.

There's a little box on the 'send STL' page below the address field that says something like "Add these addresses to my STL friends list." I always uncheck the box.
I only send to whomever is currently listed in the dvdtalk.com/stl database for the titles I purchase.

I does seem that I'm on quite a few others' stl lists now though and receive stl all the time for titles I haven't requested. I certainly don't mind as frequently there are titles I have overlooked or forgot about.

Cheers,
Gabe

As a person who has signed up to receive the love for every movie - not only do I not mind when I get love for a movie/book/cd that I haven't specifically asked for, I appreciate it.

I got one of those extremely rude emails as well, and since the person didn't sign it, and his email address wasn't listed in my amazon friends section, I had to delete everyone because I couldn't figure out who the jerk was. He didn't respond back when I asked for his name so I could delete only his name. There's always a few extremely rude people who feel the need to spoil everyone else's day - I try not to let it get to me because that would mean the jerk accomplished what he wanted.

If you don't want STL, don't sign up for it. I'm guessing 75% of the people who send love add you to their amazon friends list and you'll continue to get notices for whatever that person buys. Deal with it, or get off the darn list.

i always delete any email from amazon that says '10%' -- it isn't that hard. I have one email that i only use for STL and for my Amazon sales. Between the two i get a 1000 emails a month, but it only takes a few seconds to sort & delete.

Then when i want to buy something, i just go into STL on the amazon site - i don't mess around w/ the emails. Every single item i've wanted to buy (and others I hadn't thought of) are usually in there somewhere, so it works wonderfully for me (especially for this recent ET/LOTR deal!)

Don't Care

I use a free e-mail account for my STL so my regular account doesn't get bombarded.

I never get mad over opportunities to take advantage of a good deal. If I don't want the item (which is most of the time) I just delete.

BTW: This is the second time I've had to warn you. If I receive another one of these you will become a project. I'm not sure how things work in Atlanta, but we have lots of free time here in Minnesota. Fair warning... ~ This is plain wrong to say to someone concerning STL.

you can take part of sher the love without getting those emails.

i enjoy seeing what everyone is buying, might notice something that slipped under the radar and i like seeing what the stl price is, sometimes it will prompt me to buy something i was holding off on or was gonna get somewhere else.

i do sometimes get annoyed with the emails, esp when their is a flood of them, even more so by one person making multipule purchases. but i don't really care, it takes a few seconds to delete them all.

I say, F him. And like someone else said, tell him to bring it on. If he had sent a cordial email, something polite, i wouldn't be angry. But a threat? Come on....

I usually like it. What I hate is when the same person sends me love for the same item like twelve times. What does this person do? Cancel-reorder, cancel-reorder ten times?

since he emailed you I guess you have his email address so i suggest signing him up for spam. porn sites specializing in fetish sex will keep him occupied i think.

By the way Dvdtalk would never condone such actions so remember it was a joke

What a Jerk! Why can't he login and disable his STL email notification. I am pretty sure there is an option to opt out of the STL.

Well I can partly agree with the sender of this e-mail. But not totally.

I knew in advance the STL offers would create a ton of e-mails, so when I signed up for it, I was smart enough to use a free spam e-mail account. But here comes the problem. I use my real e-mail address at Amazon when ordering and of course I always share the love on those titles. It seems that some people then add this identity (from my share the love e-mail sent to them) to their friends list, which then causes my real e-mail address to get spammed everytime they make an order.

My only solution was turning off the share the love feature to stop any STL e-mails to be sent to my real e-mail address. I'm not sure if this voids me from receiving the 10% discount when someone uses my STL e-mail, but I have made a TON of amazon orders and have received not one 10% discount in return.

It is a bummer that there are a few morons out there as stated above and in the original post that have to ruin this cool feature for everyone. But if you get a harassing e-mail like the original poster did, just e-mail that person back and tell them to go to amazon and change their settings to receive no STL e-mails.

Davidking, if you are requesting stl from a free spam email account (which is different from the real email address that you use at amazon), when people send stl to your spam address, how do you obtain the stl with your real email address? I mean, how does amazon associate your spam email account's stl with your real account? It would mean that stl discounts are transferrable?

Very very simple. Sign in at amazon under the account I used with the free spam address. View my STL discounts, add which ones i want to my shopping cart. Click checkout and when it asks for my log in info again, I enter my real e-mail address and password for the account I order with.

Thanks everybody for your responses. I sent the STL Jerk and email also.

____________________________________________________
Carl,
I've removed you from my Amazon friends list. The only reason you were sent that is because you signed up for the DVD Talk Share The Love list. Once you receive an offer from the list you requested, you are automatically added to that person's friends list and receive offers from them any time they make a purchase. This was no attempt to spam you or whatever. In the future, if you don't want to be sent any of these offers from anyone else, don't use the DVD Talk STL list or remove the Share The Love notification from your Amazon profile. This is the link to do that.

Sorry for the inconvenience.

So I hope that's the end of that problem and, once again, thanks for your help everyone.
