DJ Quik - Under Tha Influence
This one just came out today...as a DJ Quik fan I was wondering if anyone has heard it yet.
Also, if anyone has it on their computer by any chance (I'd like to hear it before buying it), give me an email at [email protected]
Thanks.

beatwise, it's quik's trademark sound. smooth funky beats with live instrumentation. After hearing his progression into newer sounds (truth hurts "addictive") i was slightly disappointed with the same old quik which isn't bad at all. There is one track I like which has a nice uptempo bassline following the growing trend of rappers flowing over tracks with a house music influence.
As far as the vocals go, i haven't heard it all yet, but I think i like quik's past albums. He's definitely not covering any new ground here but for some reason I don't feel his flow is as tight as on his previous efforts. Plus, I think there are too many cameos by less skilled rappers. Even's Dre's contribution both vocally, and beatwise is average for his standards.
It seems like I'm complaning but I have to admit this is definitely up there quality wise compared to everything else out there. Production levels are definitely high but no new ground is broken with this album.

If anyone here is willing to rip this CD so I can see if I'd really like it, let me know. I've heard one of his singles and so far I like what I hear. But as a poor college student, I liked to preview it before buying.

New DJ Quik is good but still can't beat old school Quik. I saw him perform my school UCSD recently to promote his new album, it was a free concert at lunchtime but i have to say the best songs he performed were his old ones - Tonight, Dollarz&Sense, Safe+Sound, Down Down Down, Let's Get Down
