GC Game for the woman...must be similar to Super Mario Bros
I want to surprise the fiance with a gamecube this weekend, but all she's been talking about is how there has to be a game like the original Super Mario Brothers. What game would that be?? Resident Evil?

I bet she would love a GameBoy Advance. They have all the classic games on it. I am getting my GameCube delivered today (FINALLY!) and my girlfriend can't wait. She has asked me everyday when it is due in because she can't wait to play Sonic.

I recommend Luigi's Mansion. My gf plays it all the time. Although the gameplay is different, sorta like ghostbusters, the characters are there such as Mario, Luigi etc. ALso the sound, and style (easy to pick up and play) remind me of the old Super Mario Bros.

She might like Super Smash Bros. Melee. It's a platform based fighting game just like the Mario games are platform based adventure games. There's even platform levels just like the Mario games in the Adventure mode. Of course it also has the familiar cast of characters.

Super Monkey Ball, saw it reviewed on tv, it's a happy jumpy sort of platform thing with monkeys in bubbles with loads of mini-games.
The women reviewing it said it was the best game ever.

Sonic Adventure 2 is nothing like the originals, the original Sonic games were actually good. The Sonic levels are decent but the rest are boring and incredibly repetitive.

I agree, Luigi's Mansion would be a good choice. You might also look into Pac-Man World 2, here's a review:

After my first weekend with my new GameCube, I would have to say Luigi's Manson or Pikmin. I got the Freedom Pass at Blockbuster and got Luigi's Manson and Pikmin for my girlfriend. I had already bought Rogue Squadron for me so I was set for the weekend playing that! She played Luigi's Mansion for quite a while on Saturday, but she spent 4 hours playing Pikmin on Sunday! I had to pry her away from that game. However, I have now gotten hooked on Lugi's Manson! I have played it more than Rogue Squadron. I didn't even think I would be able to stand it, but it reminded me enough of some of the older Nintendo games that it has kept my interest. It's not challenging, but it was fun to play.

YMMV, but my wife's favorite game on the Cube is Gauntlet Dark Legacy of all things. Her faves on the N64 were the Mario Party games, so when part 4 comes out in October she'll be there.
