Not especially, all you're getting is a Memory card($24.99) and extra controller($24.99) and 6 issues of EGM($30), for $50 so essentially you're getting 6 magazines for free. I don't know about you but I could do without the magazines. If you want to save some bucks, grab some of dvd's and head down to an EB. I went and traded in several dvd's and ended up paying $150 for a PS2. A generic memory card can cost you about $20, and you can pick up a cheapo controller for about $5 for your wife . Make sure you research the PS2 as with the PS2 I've noticed there aren't too many 2 player games that aren't fighting for racing. Here are some I know of,
Baldur's Gate Dark Alliance
Adventures of Cookies & Cream
Rayman Arena
Gauntlet Dark Legacy
Most of the better games are designed as 1 player, Devil May Cry, GTA3, MGS2, FFX(although my wife enjoys this with me).
FFX, GTA3 are definitely worth the purchase for me, also the backwards compatability allows me to play DDR with my wife on it.
