I have a very low tolerance for commercial music radio these days. I listen to talk radio or college radio.

Classical which somehow always gets overlooked on these music polls. Otherwise it's CDs.

I never listen to the car stereo...on the internet, I listen to old school alternative and new emo for the most part.

My most listened to genre is classic rock. I sometimes switch back and forth to classic rock and alternative.

I really hate pop music radio. I have friends that listen to all that teen age garbage dance/rap and pop music and I hate that stuff with a passion. That kind of music is talentless.

OH WOW, I can lip synch over a cassette player and rap over turn tables, how talented is that? *heavy sarcasm* That type of music is too fake to me. They don't play their own instruments or write their own lyrics. Meh........

Most pop music fans don't like classic rock and alternative too much but at least classic rock and alternative bands have a lot of talent and play their own instruments and write their own songs. These bands don't lip synch over cassette players and rap over turn tables.

I try to stay away from the radio...though I will check out NPR or college radio every once in a while. Almost none of the stuff I listen to is played on the radio anyway, and I really have no interest in pop or Limp Bizkit style rap metal...

atlanta has two of the best college radio stations i've heard (Ga Tech and Ga State). i used to alternate between the two on my long commutes when i lived in atlanta and several times per week i'd have to scramble for a pen and paper to write down the name of some artist that i'd never heard before, but HAD to get some of their music ASAP.

are there any good college stations in DC? plenty of colleges but i haven't found a single good radio station. (of course i don't commute by car anymore, either, so i don't spend an hour in traffic with nothing to do but listen to music)

In my experience with HFS (which is admittedly very limited), it's no better than any of the other extreme radio/alternative rock stations that you find in every mid-sized to large city in the country.

yeah that was my impression too.

one of the few "commercial" stations i've really liked over the years was EQX in manchester vermont. i haven't listened to it much in a few years though.

I used to listen to Seton Hall radio because they played Black Metal. But now all they play is emo

If I have to I'll listen to classic rock but they usually don't play what I like and its plagued with too many commercials. If I'm in a car I'll usually just pop in a cd

I was living in Annapolis in '83 when WHFS switched over to an alternative format. They were GREAT back then, but from what everyone says it sounds like they are as boring as what we have in Atlanta (99X). Too bad.

I'll agree that the college stations here in Atlanta are very good.
The Georgia Tech station can be flat our WEIRD at times and they mix up such a wide variety instead of just blocks of the same music. Georgia State's station is 100,000 watts and probably one of the premier college stations in the country. It's almost a guarantee that I'll find something I enjoy at any time of the day.
