Sampo vs. Malata Region free Players

I just ordered the Sampo DVE-611 for $94 after reading about how I could make it region free from area450. I found the Malata DVD-N996 for $240. I don't have an HDTV just yet, but hopefully plan on getting one by the end of the year. I have around 15 R3 movies right now and plan on getting more. To anyone who's have experience with one or both, would it be worth it to spend the extra money for the Malata? How is the playback on both?

If you're getting an HDTV by the end of the year, you should have gone for the Malata. It's progressive scan, which you'll be able to use with the HDTV, plus you have much better aspect ratio control. The Malata is much better quality over all and you hear very few complaints about them.

It's only been two hours since your first post. Give people a chance.

A lot has been posted about the Malata here and at www.hometheaterforum.com . You might try running a search at both places. You'll probably come up with lots of information.

This place now says they are not selling the Malata DVD-N996 because the new model will be available in a month or so. avdeals.com is still selling it for $289.99 shipped.

I'm thinking it may be worth waiting for the new model. Perhaps they'll have the bugs from the N996 worked out.
