Purchased Apex 1500 for $90 at CC, added the $30 3 year insurance to cover reliaiblity issues. Upgraded firware w/ cd-r as directed through this forum - works great.

I can make VHS copies of my DVD's to give to my Dad, and make copies to play at school (i am a teacher) for the kiddies!

Has it stopped me from being an avid DVD collector? No.

But DVD-r will - perhaps 1 year from now when it is easier to do then making sliced bread and about as cheap to!

Until then my collection will grow.

I got the original Apex 600-a, with the secret menu. I can select code free, or a specific region, plus, it defeats macrovision, which is a plus, since my hook-up goes through my VCR (I don't record DVD to VHS... why would I??)

Bought an Apex 1500 as a secondary player, and as my multiregion & SVCD player.

I don't, and I really don't see why I would need one.

I purchased an Apex player for region free play. Most of the titles I view that are not available in the US are TV shows. I own the following shows that may take a while to get to R1:

Friends: Seasons 1-7 (R4)
Buffy: Seasons 2-3 (R4)
Northern Exposure: Season 1 (R2)

I travel a lot to Australia, so picking up R4 DVD's is never a problem. Plus, the exchange rate right now is in the US's favor when dealing with Australia so the prices are pretty darn good. I use EzyDVD for my R4 on line purchases.

No and I don't think I need one. All the movies I want to watch are region #1.

yup, got the sampo, and use the secret menus... for anime, hk/chinese moves, korean movies, euro PAL movies, etc.

seeing Taxi w/ it made the purchase totally worthwhile. and, i had gotten Leon R2 long before the US version came out. and of course the ghiblis that was mentioned.
