Dream Theater
Any Dream Theater fans in here: I have heard many people who love Dream Theater. I know very little about them. I do notice they have been around for awhile. I was wanting to know what are 2 or 3 songs that they have done that could provide a good example of them that I could download to see if i would like them-songs that would get me-their 2-3 'best' songs. Also what do fans consider their best album to be? What other bands can be compared to them?

Been a Dream Theater fan since 1990.
IMO, they're a fantastic band. My personal favorite album is their new one: Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence.
Some good tracks to look for:
Metropolis: Part I
Learning to Live
A Change of Seasons
Glass Prison
Ytse Jam
Pull me Under
the entire Scenes from a Memory suite (but especially Scene Six: Home)
In terms of bands that they could be compared to: I'd say if you take Yes and Kansas, mix them together with some jazz, a little Yngwie Malmsteen, and throw in some good solid 90's metal into the mix, you'd be almost there. (basically there really aren't any other bands that sound like them. every one of their albums is so unique that it's hard to classify beyond progressive metal).

so, have any of my fellow DT fans seen them on their current tour yet? If so, do you have their set list?
I'm going Wed. night to see them here in Minneapolis
If they're anywhere near their performance level when I last saw them (on the Awake tour), it should be a fantastic show

just got back from the show.
Good Lord.....that was incredible.
If they're coming to your town (even if you're on the fence as to whether or not you like their tunes...) GO!
It easily ranks up there with the best live performances I've ever seen
