I'm Driving 6 Hours Roundtrip To Get Matching Surround Speakers....Am I Crazy?

I think I may be nuts...

Tomorrow morning I'm driving almost three hours to Champaign (please don't snow a lot....please don't snow a lot) to buy a pair of B&W S2 601's in cherry to match my fronts. For those of you who don't know B&W came out with the S3's and changed the color of the finish...thus the new 601's don't match my 602's. After a week of calling around in Wisconsin and Illinois I found this one store with one pair left! Am I crazy to go so far out of my way to get these speakers when I get get a pair in black finish without leaving the city?

Dammit.....dammit!!!!!

I just called the store to confirm that I was coming to buy the speakers and the guy told me that the computer had inventory wrong. It was a pair of 602's instead of 601's....Ughhhh!

Does anyone know where a pair of B&W 601 S2 in cherry exist for sale?

well if all fails...

if all fails, you can always buy a pair and re-varnish(?) them to cherry

How long ago where they out in retail? Depending on how long ago it was, I might have an answer.

Hifi Sound in downtown Minneapolis also carries B&W.
It's on Harmon, between 12th and 13th.
The shop owner is really friendly and helpful in my experiences there.

1226 Harmon Place
Downtown Minneapolis,MN 55403
612-339-6351 On-site Parking

..just a question, though.....why not go with the 602's?

I'm not exactly sure I believe the new Series 3 speakers only came out a couple of months ago. So I would guess that up until the beginning of the year the S2s were widely available.

Thanks for all Minnesota suggestions guys! I have actually called every retailer on the B&W website in Illinois, Wisconsin and Minnesota with no luck. The reason I'm not really considering the 602s is soemwhat due to price and size, but more with the fact that I can get a pair of the 601 S2s in black for only $350 here in Chicago.

I just want to be anal and have by surrounds match the fronts if at all possible.

You should try stores that are not in your area and see if they will ship to you. I mean, as long as they are the same model number, they should match, right?

The idea has crossed my mind, but I would have to find a very cooperative store since B&W has a strict "no mail/internet" sales policy. Granted if I purchase from a retailer that is authorized I don't see why they couldn't ship, but even the store in Champaign wouldn't ship them.

You can try...

Myer Emco

They are in the DC area, but they have been good to me. If they have them, it would be easy to convince them to mail them to you.

I think I've officially given up on the cherry finish. I haven't found any on the online classifieds, but I did find a pair online in Canada, but the store doesn't do online sales of anything let alone B&W. I did send an email to the US distributor, but I doubt I'll get a response from them.

I guess, I will have to go with the black finish and not care that they don't match. Of course, I didn't buy the B&Ws for their looks in the first place...sound is all that matters...right?

If you've given up on cherry then try their DS6 dipoles. I think that is what I may go with instead of a pair of 601s
