DVD Audio/SACD--anyone want my money yet?

I am still watching this current format war with no apparent end in sight.

Anyone have any info on development, or do I just keep my money>?

I have DVD-Audio Player and have never used it yet to play DVD-audio's. They (DVD-A and SACD) cd's both are about 16.00-17.00 each at Best Buy. I know SACD is not Digital like DVD-A is. You may want to check out this link for a little more info on it.

Link on info about DVD-A and SACD

While DVD-Audio uses the linear PCM (pulse code modulation) approach to digital audio encoding, Sony has championed an alternative approach called Direct Stream Digital. Building on the physical characteristics of DVD, Sony and Philips have developed a closely related format called Super Audio CD, which offers stereo and/or six-channel playback of a high-fidelity DSD signal, as well as an optional CD layer that may be read in standard CD players.

Excuse me? Perhaps you meant to say something else?

As far as which format, media price is not an issue with me. I simply don't want another Betamax, I have had one of those already.

What was wrong with Betamax. My toshiba that my parents purchased in 1985 still works great!!! I know they tried to corner the market and that made JVC come out with the VHS. I feel you pain!!!

Nothing was wrong with Betamax except that it no longer exists and has not for quite some time.

I am waiting for the first decent combo units to hit the market (i.e. not Apex, nor anything 1000 bucks). Neither format will end up being the replacement to CDs, seeing it seems like the majority of people currently perfer low quality MP3s instead of CDs!!!!

If I had to make a bet though, I am guessing DVD-Audio will utimately be the winner due to the amount of DVD players already installed which will play the standard DD and DTS tracks on most discs.

I cannot see the masses seriously buying into either format, especially if they do not have the equipment to get the most from either format. These will always be more of an audiophile niche product (which is not a bad thing).
