Anyone know how to get in to this if you're not industry connected? I remember seeing last year that they were charging an arm and a leg for normal people to get in.

There's no point in going, really, unless you're directly involved in the industry.
From a gamer's standpoint, all you'll get to do is play half-finished games. Let the insiders do that, read what they've got to say, and come up with your own conclusions.
Oh yeah, you'll also get to see some babes sporting the latest skimp wear in the videogame scene.....but you've got internet access anyway.

i think E3's a blast. I've been to about 4 or 5 and have always enjoyed it. it's like walking around in vegas or disneyland- you're just kinda hypnotized by all the lights and colors. And many of the games are completely finished. they also have contests and if you're in the biz, you can get into the pre parties that kick azz. Last year X-Box threw a party and had Third Eye Blind and Blink 182 perform. Playstation had Paul Oakenfold DJ'ing. Worth paying for? i dunno. this year i think it's only wed-fri, so no weekend.
