Everybody Knows. Leonard Cohen Appreciation thread
He isn't as twisted as my first love, John Cale, but he's definitely in a class by himself. I hear other bands that are heavily influenced by this character all the time including Crumble Down New Buildings (Einsterzende Neubauten). Listen to their song "Sand" sometime...vocals and lyrics are very similar to Mr. Cohen's style.
I know some of you are fans of the guy. What are your favorite albums/songs? What would you recommend to someone who might be interested in picking up a non best of CD by Cohen?

Let's see. Picking a favorite album or song from one of the greatest song writers in history is very difficult.
I guess if I had to choose just one "non best of," I'd have to go with New Skin for the Old Ceremony. Simply brilliant from start to finish, IMO.
I don't even know where to begin with favorite songs, but I think that's a good thing. There aren't too many artists out there that can write with such quality as consistantly as the field commander.

My girlfriend really really loves the song "Everybody Knows", and I like it lot as well. Haven't heard much of his other stuff yet, though. Sometime I'll get around to seeking out more of his songs.
