A REAL home theater...j/k

Since all I see people posting is their Best Buy and Internet home theaters, I thought I would toss mine up here too.

- Marantz SR5200 Receiver
- Marantz DV6200 DVD Player
- Apex 600A (Pile of crap) DVD Player
- B&W DM 602 (With B&W Stands) Front L/R
- B&W DM 601 (With B&W Stands) Rear L/R
- B&W CC6 Center
- IXOS Wiring
- Sony Trinitron 35"
- Plateau Black/Silver TV Stand

If I didnt work at a cool A/V store, Im sure Id end up with Pioneer/Sony

Sounds like me too. I get tired hearing all of these people talking about all of the mid-fi crap that's on the market like Bose, Yahmaha, Onkyo, etc.

Mine is:
B&W Nautilus 804's-front
B&W Nautilus 805's-rear
B&W Nautilus HTM2
Bryston 4BST for my front channel, Bryston 5BST for the Center and rears and a Bryston SP1 preamp/processor.
Harmonic Technology cables all the way around.

I'll go ya one further: I hate anyone that has different equipment, priorities, or ideas than I do.

In all seriousness, this forum is for, about, and populated by people with a wide range of home theater budgets and expectations. If you are tired of reading about Bose, Yamaha, and Onkyo, it should be pretty obvious which threads you can simply avoid clicking on.

It is pretty obvious which ones to avoid, but it is hard to avoid seeing all of the thread titles.

I didn't mean to be combative, I just chuckle to myself when someone post how much their HT setup rocks and then proceed to talk about their receiver.

Hey, it's all fair in love and HT, right?
I'm sure there's someone out there with a Theta/Wilson Audio set-up, laughing at all those guys with the B&Ws.
J/K, of course

i have a feeling that this post is directly reffering to my post, which shows off my theater in my sig. I work at best buy, I'm 20 years old, and i dont make 70,000 a year so i am proud of my theater setup. Everytime i show off the setup to my coworkers they think i am nuts, but little do they know about people who spend 10s of thousands of dollars on home theater equipment. And you know what? I have 85-90% of the quality that other people who spent 10 times or more the amount i have on my equipment, and that puts a big ol' smile on my face. You know that audiophiles pay 10x more for an improvement of 10%, and i just dont see the reasoning to bash people on that.

It appears I started a war. I was not bashing anyone, nor did I even see that post of your Best Buy system. I always just found it curious that almost everyone on this board posts systems from stores like that. I really dont see anything "wrong" with these systems, my old roomate had a huge BB system and it sounded fine. I was merely posting what I have in hopes others would post higher end equpiment. Oh, and I wish I made 70k a year, Im sure I make the same as people at Best Buy, even less maybe

Anyways, my "J/K" in the topic should have made it clear that I was not slamming anyone.

I really appreciate that people have backed up their opinions not only without slamming other people (and their systems), but in such a way that respectfully clarifies previous ambiguities. (E.g., it's very easy to take the phrase "Best Buy and internet theaters" in a pejorative way, even with a disclaimer such as j/k.)

Now that we all know where everybody else is coming from, let's continue with the topic at hand.

Thanks again.

That's true, I love the Watt/Puppy but now I'd rather have B&W Nautilus 800's over them any day of the week. Also I've owned Theta equipment and didn't really care for it. I'm very happy with my Bryston equipment. Of course I'm always tweaking it here and there. I understand that it gets to a point of diminshing returns but I don't believe that it's 85% to 90% the performance of my system. The soundstage, depth of image and overall "musicality" for lack of a better word just isn't there.

I once had these types of setups before I graduated college so I know where people are coming from. You do the best with what you got. I've put mine together piece by piece to get to this point. I justify spending this much because I don't spend it elsewhere(besides the house), I don't drive a $30,000 car, I much rather have something such as a great stereo setup that I can enjoy much more.

Wow, the first person I've run into on this forum that has owned Theta gear. What did you have?
I just auditioned the Casablanca/Citadel set-up and was very impressed, but I'm still doing some shopping.

Don't get me wrong it's not that it wasn't good. It was great gear, it just for some reason didn't sound great in my setup. I haven't really dabbled in any of their surround gear just D/A processors and CD Players. I've owned both the Chroma and Miles CD player. Right now I have an Arcam FMJ23 and love it to death. I wanted to get an Arcam FMJ DVD player but it's a little expensive for me right now. I think I'm going to be getting the Sony SACD/DVD player(9000 ES). It can be had for $900 brand new. It will serve as my main DVD player and let me dabble in SACD. These of course are just my preferences.

I find that this hardware forum is for those who have modest setups....If you want discussion about more serious setups try hometheaterforum.com or avsforum.com. There, you can find some tweakers with some kick a** set ups. I come here every now in then to help people out. It wasnt long ago that I was in their shoes.

If I hadn't already made it clear:

This forum is for people with all different budgets. This includes people who are just getting started in home theater, as well as the "hardcore tweaker types." I tend to think that the latter group has just as much to learn from the former in terms of seeing this hobby from another perspective as does the former from the latter.

Also, I urge everyone here to think twice about making sarcastic comments, which are a sure sign to me that a thread has run its course, and only invites further off-topic remarks.

Closing this thread.
