Not a song or artist in particular but the one that springs to mind is the whole album of Coverdale:Page. What a tragedy that was....the horror. My opinion of Jimmy Page was tarnished after that.

Tom Waits' "Filipino Box Spring Hog" - not the song, but a version of it
This song originally appeared in 1993 on a benefit album called Born to Choose. It's loose, fun, powerful, rough, & beautiful. I played it all the time.
Then in 1999, he totally reworked it & put it on his Mule Variations album. He added all kinds of nonsense like a harmonica & really bad drums. It has a totally different feel & makes me sick. It ruins the album for me somewhat because I just can't listen to it all the way through. I have to run over to the stereo everytime & skip to the next track.
The worst part is the really cool version will be buried & forgotten while the bad one will live on on Mule Variations. & it seems Tom never realized his "error"
as I've heard some live boots & he does it very similar to the album.

The entire "Everyday" album by Dave Matthews Band. What's worse is that they recorded some of their best studio material ever right before Everyday, and then scrapped it. Luckily, resourceful fans made sure it was released on the Internet.

CLUTCH- "Careful with that Mic"
While not a bad song, it's not typical Clutch fare, and ironically it has garnered some radio play (which is unheard of for them). While they deserve the recognition, it sucks to see Frat-like bandwagon jumpers at the shows moshing it up yelling "play that one song". If it means more for the band though I suppose I can stomach it because I would love to see them achieve some much deserved commercial
success. If any band could maintain their artistic integrity it would be them.

the wrong girl - belle and sebastian. The ever so insightful lyrics sound as though they were penned in a matter of minutes. The instrumentals are trite and repetitive. There really isn't anything redeeming at all about this song, which is unfortuante. I love most of this stuff, but I think Fold your hands overall is not such a wonderful album despite a few great songs.

"Tonight" - David Bowie (should have left it as an Iggy song)
and speaking of Iggy, "Candy". God that song is attrocious. And so not Iggy. Wild Mood Swings - yes the entire album by the Cure. Sore mistake, that. I second "Shiny Happy People".
Oh, and "Walking on the Sun" by Smashmouth. I blame this one song for their so-called popularity. They are a suck band, and if they had never had a hit, the radio would never have inflicted them upon the unsuspecting public.

I guess what I hate most about it is that top-40 radio played it to death as if they had just discovered PJ, and then they totally forgot PJ as if they weren't around anymore. I'm hesitant to say this one because I may be missing some historical significance due to my age, but my first taste of Clapton was the Timepieces greatest hits album. It's all one cool groove, until it gets to Hand Jive, then it seems to take a detour into clown school. WTF is a handjive? I'm convinced it's some bizarre form of masturbation.

I know why she wrote it, and I appreciate that, but I certainly don't like listening to it, I don't think it's her best work, and I am SO tired of hearing it at every Tori concert I attend!

I completely second Dave Mathews "Everyday" call, this album stinks worse than my ex-girls breath. Uh, Dave, nice to see you learned how to play the electric guitar, now go put it away and get the acoustic. Also, the new Kid Rock song "Long road of faith (or sumpin like that)" is just hitting the airwaves and is about the equivelent of an aural enima. Kid, what happened?

What? Many of you did not realize this is a cover? It is.
Listen to the original by Frank J. Wilson and the Cavaliers. It went to #2 on the Top 40 in 1964 & it is a truly a great death song of the times.
