has the ERA of ROCK/MUSIC LEGENDS gone for good ?
Rock Legends like the Stones, Kiss, Rod Stewart etc etc
they all started out decades ago and are still around today.
Can you honestly see the Backstreet Boys and Nsync being around in 20 years time ?
I think the era of legends in music is over. We will have nothing but short lived 'flavour of the month' type of artists

For a band or artist to endure, they generally must evolve. This can be tricky because too much musical evolution too quickly can scare off fans and not enough change can bore fans.
It's not likely that new legends like those you've referenced will come about due to the wide variety of tastes and choices in music today. Different genres, however, will continue to create legends within their specific style of music.

Arena rock is dead. After AC/DC, Aerosmith and the like die off, that's it. Thank God I got to see KISS in full regalia in '97 before it all goes belly up. Saw AC/DC recently too. Man, you kids are losin' out big time. Come on, does anyone smoke pot and sneak booze into Backstreet Boys concerts??? No. I didn't think so.... "and that's what's wrong with America today!!"

I actually don't like big venue rock shows. I'd much rather go to a club to see a band than a stadium. Social Distortion recently played several shows in LA. Instead of playing at a big venue, they played like 8 nights at the House of Blues. The Descendents did this too, when they played for a week straight at the Whiskey.
I've seen Metallica 3 times. Two were general admission shows (no assigned seating) and one was a stadium show (at the LA Colliseum).. the Colliseum show sucked.. I could barely see the band and the sound was horrid.
The only huge stadium show I've been to and enjoyed was Pink Floyd in 1994 -- but that band is made for a big arena (The Rose Bowl in this case).. and they managed to sell out 2 nights there -- so I don't know that they could play some place small.
Good thing most of the bands I like don't play big venues.
