Once you get out of the Library, the shotgun is also very useful vs. Covenant. Much more so than the AR on higher diff. levels. I mean, it can take a clip just to bust a single Elite shield with the AR, while it only takes a coupla shotgun blasts and then one more to kill the bugger.

edit. I have found a *couple* spots where the needler is invaluable. Especially when you hit the T&R a second time and those stupid elites are guarding the banshees. It helps being able to pump a whole clip of homing needles into the guy while staying out of direct fire.

My favorite combination:
Plasma pistol & shotgun
This is a two hit combo.
One to take out the Covenant's shield, the other to take out the Covenant.

I usually unload nearly the entire clip of needles on a single opponent before I run for cover.
I wonder if this weapon is under utilized by most.
It is actually a great weapon to use on the Legendary difficulty setting.
