Need help should I buy used Yamaha RX-V1070 or get a new receiver altogether
OK, just moved into a new home and bang the receiver got dropped. (another story) anyway, a friend is selling a Yamaha
rx-v1070 and I am thinking about buying it. The problem no dolby digital, this receiver was top of the line in its day and he is cutting the priceacordingly. Should I go buy it or go for the gusto, any recomendations on a better receiver that is resonable priced.
Help?

the difference between DD and Pro Logic is HUGE.
I'd go ahead and buy a new receiver. You'll be happier in the long run.
for recommendations, we'll need an idea of your budget. How much do you want / can you spend?

Thats why this is being considered, I'm broke. I can only go 200 to 300 dollars, my friend hasnt quoted a price on the yamaha, but it will be in this area and he takes exceptional care of his stuff. I read the other thread on receivers, I cant swing the 800 dollars on the price, any cheaper receivers that are good or ?

IMO, the best receivers under $500 are the Onkyo 494 and the Onkyo 595.
You can get the 494 within your price range. It has DD, DTS, DPL II, and has an excellent track record for performance.

the 777 is a really nice unit. It's a little older, and won't have DPL II, but it's still a great receiver.
FYI: I have a 575-X (the predecessor to the 595), and absolutely love it. It's rock solid, and an excellent receiver for the price.
