I know it sounds trivial...but check your video connections and make sure they are plugged in the whole way---especially if you are using S-Video.. I have had this happen to me, and it has always been a loose connection. Hope that helps!

Check your setup. You didn't tell it to play through component video when you're using s-video or vice versa, did you? And you're not playing PAL on a multi-format player, are you?

Are you using s-video? Any chance something happened to your cable?

Component video uses 3 seperate cable to carry the video signal. Please see the FAQ for more info.

Do you have the DVD player connected to a VCR?

Did the DVD player work fine before and just all of a sudden went black & white?

Are you sure that this is not a PAL DVD player?

Are you sure you aren't just watching Citizen Kane?

Perhaps it just has to do with your tv? My JVC has this problem. If you put anything in the 2nd video input slot it always comes out black and white.

Did you check the video settings on your TV for the input that your DVD player is connected to. It's possible it lost the settings when it was unplugged. Maybe the color setting is turned all the way down which would make the picture black and white.

problem solved

this happens all the time when people use their rca cables ( red white yellow) in the component video jacks(red blue green) make sure your colors are properly matched up.
