Is Hollywood Video witholding new release DVDs?

I've noticed this the last few times I've been there....As we all know, new DVDs are released on Tuesday. Well, I'll show up at Hollywood around Thursday to rent movies for the weekend, and that week's new releases will be available on VHS only. Usually on Friday, the DVDs will show up in very limited quantities. Any one else experience this?

I work at Blockbuster and sometimes our distrubutor doesn't give us the DVD titles until the Friday after. Very odd isn't it? Same with games.

Maybe it is due to the falling power of the video rental stores in the market, and the increasing power of Best Buy, Walmart, etc in the retail sales end of the market. There was a thread in one of the forums discussing this recently, regarding the sell through (or was the correct term rent through?) pricing that used to occur on VHS, when Block Buster was at it's strongest...

Just a thought, but kind of makes sense. I'd assume the distributors would rather supply Walmart & Best Buy first, then supply the rental chains ...
