System of a Down: Underrated or Overrated?
I think they're underrated. People say they have a Limp Bizkit sound to them, but I think they're quite original. I just hope they don't become sell-outs like Tenacious D did.....they were the coolest.......were, that is....

System of a Down is great, I really haven't heard anything like them before. But I don't listen to a lot of underground rock or anything. I wouldn't compare this to limpbizkit at all.

Anyway, my vote is for "overrated".
I was interested in what the band had to say, so I read the lyrics of most of the songs, and it looks like the words were just thrown together. They also sound very cookie-cutter nu-metal/mook-rock to me. I must admit that the guitar player is pretty good, but otherwise they songwriting is lacking and the music just seems to be made so that fans of Korn and the like will gobble this up.

I don't think SOAD are either underrated or overrated. They are definitely the indie kid's nu-metal band. They have obviously listened to their DC punk with all the staccato starts and stops. I do have Toxicity and I think it has it's moments.
If you like SOAD, you should check out Refused. This hardcore band from Sweden that SOAD borrows very heavily from. I bet you would love them. Shape of Punk to Come is the album to get.

I heard that they had a message that rivaled that of Rage. So, I checked out their songs and lyrics and gathered nothing more than what 5 or 10 minutes on the net could find. Very basic atrocities that are happening. I think it is cool that they would be concerned with somethink like this, but it was nothing special, imo.

They're OK.
I've seen them twice and they had a good show with a great live sound. But I don't know If I'd buy one of their CD's.

Yancey, I love refused and that album...
That said, i think SOAD is terrific. I don't listen to a lot of heavy music and i hate nu-metal, so they have to be special, definitely underrated.

Anyway its pretty good. Saw them at Summer Sanitarium last year. They were OK.
Need to check out the new disc though.

I'd say underated, in the sense that their best music never gets played. All you ever hear is Chop Suey, and occassionally Spiders off of their first album. Neither of these songs in a good sample of their sound. Personally I don't think they sound like any of the other new metal bands. I can't stand crap like Static-X, Slipnot, Powerman 5000, Disturbed, etc. SOAD stands out to me, they have a new fresh sound. At least to me anyway. I'm not a hardcore music lover that digs around to find good indie/underground bands, so you guys may have heard bands that sound a lot like them, but I haven't.

ok. i have seen them twice and i will say both times i HATED them. i fully went into it hoping to like them.. but the only cool song they played was "F@#K the SYSTEM" and it was only cool cause it was like i was telling them to F@#K off.
