Will there be a Bestbuy Thanksgiving sale?

I mean with the economy down and all, do you think we are going to see some good deals at Bestbuy during Thanksgiving? I'm saving up for it, plus I got a bunch of bestbuy gc's coming my way. Anybody have any inside info on this?

It's not a matter of if, it's a matter of what. I suspect we'll see good deals on some of the following items:

Shrek (My Top Choice)
How the Grinch/J Carrey (Second Choice)
SW:TPM
Mummy Returns (Very Likely)
Snow White
Final Fantasy

I agree with your choices of Mummy Returns and Final Fantasy. The Grinch's release date is too close to Thanksgiving. Cast Away sounds like a good discount title to me.

I'd throw Forrest Gump and Cast Away (since CA's gonna have it's a price reduction around then anyway) to the mix as well.

So here's the list:

Shrek (My Top Choice)
Castaway
Forrest Gump
SW:TPM
Mummy Returns (Very Likely)
Snow White
Final Fantasy
How the Grinch/J. Carrey

And, I'm still betting on Grinch. There's really no Holiday title in there, and Holiday titles make good gifts.

How about prices: I suspect we'll see $11.99-13.99 prices on the lucky titles. I'm guessing with the way the studios have kept the prices up with 2-disc sets will make these titles at, say, 12.99 still a big deal. Last year the big sale price was $11.99...

Shrek doesn't look like a sale title. I don't know but it seems it is the Gladiator of last year. It's going to be a big seller anyways so there is no need to reduce it. And also, either Snow White or Star Wars won't be a discount title. My bet would be Star Wars. It's already a big seller.

It seems the dvd's they have the most stock on are Snow White, Godfather, A Knight's Tale and Forrest Gump to name a few. So obviously their Thanksgiving sale will be on other DVD's they are sold out on.

I forgot about A Knight's Tale. Definitely. Last year Patriot was a $11.99 and AKT and Patriot are very similar releases. Both are Columbia/Tristar, both have Heath Ledger, and both have crappy covers!

The two sure things IMO:
Mummy Returns
A Knight's Tale

Actually, I remember quite a few of last year's sale DVDs to be older titles like LA Confidential, Fargo, and other older hits. Only a few of the titles were newer ones (Patriot, Fight Club).

Do you think they'll have Sopranos season 2? Or any other boxsets?

There were a bunch of titles at 11.99 last year. I remember MI:2, U-571, and The Patriot, but Fight Club was the biggie. Gladiator was msrp at 29.99 (as is SW-TPM) and was marked down to 14.99 and they flew off the shelves. If anyone is expecting SW-TPM cheaper than that I think they are crazy.

I imagine that old Disney Anthology box set (of the Limited Edition/Gold Collection titles) will re-appear in the ads this season. A couple of Best Buys near me a have gotten more of those in during the past few weeks.

I'm so looking forward to this.
I remember picking up Patriot, Fight Club, and U-571 during last year's Thanksgiving sale.

If the predictions above are correct, in particular, How the Grinch..., Knight's Tale, Shrek (finger's crossed), and The Mummy Returns are on sale, I will be one happy camper that weekend.

My bet is that Charlie's Angels will be one of the discount titles.

Boy, the title of this thread is like asking "Will it snow in Alaska this winter?"

Anyway, I'm pretty certain we'll see quite a few deep discounted titles. Maybe not 8, but who knows. All I can say is, I couldn't believe what they had there last year @ $11.99.

I suspect we can probally see these titles at the sale

Americas Sweetharts
Lara Croft:Tomb Raider
Planet of the Apes

they will probally be set at these prices

Planet of the Apes=$14.99 seems fair
Tomb Raider & Americas Sweethearts=$12.99 probally

This is correct - also included were both Jurrassic Park films (I got the original JP with DTS - turned out to be the messed up soundtrack )

Fight Club was the biggie that year. I'd guess SW:TPM myself as that title is very well stocked and will have been released long enough by the time of the sale - esp. since people will buy it as gifts for anyone who did already have it from months and months on pre-order

Last year the big sale price was $11.99...

Yes, some of them were, but I went the day after Thanksgiving last year (was there at 6:00 a.m.!) and I really spent a fortune but remember a selection of dvds being priced at $8.99. I got You've Got Mail and Eraser to name a few.

Braveheart was also $11.99. I remember because it was sold out with the empty little bin/rack and, in front of this bin, was a yellow "Braveheart $11.99" sign. I wanted this as a gift, dammit!!!

Are there any Best Buy insiders in this forum who can let us know what will/will not be on sales?

I used my K-Mart rain check obtained during the june sale of Mummy UE, X-Men, Gone in 60 Sec & Any given Sunday @ 9.94 each, to get Mummy Returns, Final Fantasy, SW-TPM & Dr Dolittle 2 for 9.94 each . So I selfishly hope that Best Buy has other titles than those on sales.
