Review wanted: With Honors
Anyone have a review on this disc? I have the WS laser and a 16x9 TV and even though the DVD is Pan & Scam , I can zoom it back to 1.85:1. Just wondering on the picture quality of this disc. Thanks!

What I remember from renting the disc is that the trasfer is about average. There is nothing overly wrong with it, some occasional scratches and the picture is slightly soft, but not unwatchable in the least. But if you have the widescreen version, why would you want to "upgrade"? I don't have a WS television, but am I missing something, or won't zooming in on a pan and scan disc in order to fit your 1.76:1 ratio TV just cut off even more picture? It seems like the film would be trimmed on the sides for the DVD and then trimmed around all of the edges to fit your TV, resulting in quite a bit lost picture.

Vasb, since laserdiscs aren't anamorphic I have to zoom the picture anyway to get it to fill the screen (if I don't zoom i just get a windowboxed version of the image (though still in it's proper ratio) in the center of my screen). Since, I believe the the fullscreen DVD of With Honors is just open matte, if I zoom the DVD on my WS TV I will get back to the 1.85:1 aspect ratio (or at least close enough) of the LBX laserdisc, since the zoom function will cut off the extra info at the top and bottom that would've been matted off anyway. I was just hoping that the increased resolution of the DVD would come through a little better since I have to zoom either way.

Thanks for the explanation. I didn't know the DVD was open matte, I thought it was pan and scan. I can't compare the disc to the LD version, but the quality is pretty good, though I'm not sure if is good enough to justify a purchase if you own the LD.

I got tricked into seeing this movie
in the theater, and I must say that
it is one of the most positively
awful films I have ever seen in my
life. (sure there are worse out there,
but I am very picky about what I watch
so I don't see them). What a load of
sentimental, pointless drivel.
